This work focuses on Amando Lopez and Octavio Ortiz, two of the twenty-nine rural communities in the Bajo Lempa on the east bank of the river in the municipality of Jiquilisco, Usulutan in El Salvador. This study examines, under a participatory approach, vulnerabilities and capacities of the communities of Amando Lopez and Octavio Ortiz, as well as the national and regional framework analysing if it facilitates or limits the adaptation process. The main objective of this work was to collect and analyse information based on the strengths and weaknesses identified by the communities, in order to design adaptation strategies that could be integrated into the local management of natural resources and livelihoods.
