It was a regular Thursday morning for Blaine. At least, he thought it was. He was pretty positive it was. That was until he saw the note lying on the table beside his bed. He recognized the handwriting as Kurt’s immediately. Sitting up in his bed, Blaine eagerly opened the note. Reading it nearly brought tears to his eyes.
I love the way you make me feel like a teenage dream.
It didn’t stop there. As Blaine got ready to go to school, he came across many similar notes.
When he got out of the shower, he found a note attached to his towel that read, Whenever you sing, I only have eyes for you.
Taped to his hair gel bottle, was a note that said, Look under the sink.
Blaine looked under the sink and laughed when he found five bottles of his favorite brand of gel. There was a bowtie wrapped around every single one and another note that read, I may not understand everything about you but I love all of you, including your quirks.
Yet another note was stuck in his Chemistry textbook. Blaine laughed a little and rolled his eyes as he read it. It was so corny.
The direction fields of my heart all point to you.
Blaine glanced at the time, realizing he was going to be late if he didn’t leave immediately. He shoved his books into his bag and sprinted out to his car, grabbing the note stuck to his windshield before sliding in. As Blaine started his car, he read the note.
You drive me insane.
Blaine was surprised at how corny Kurt was being but he would readily admit that he enjoyed this side to Kurt. As he drove to McKinley, Blaine tried to think of the reason behind all these notes.
It wasn’t his birthday and it wasn’t any anniversary. Nor was it Valentine’s Day or Christmas. It was just a regular old Thursday morning. Maybe he was missing something blatantly obvious but it wouldn’t have been like Blaine to forget something important.
When Blaine arrived at McKinley, he had just enough time to grab his materials for his first class out of his locker before having to hightail it to class. Thankfully, Kurt had pinned the newest note to his notebook, otherwise he would have never seen it. This time, along with the note was a gift card to the Lima Bean.
You’re the Lima to my Bean.
Blaine had to disguise his laugh as a cough. Kurt was definitely going all out. He received a couple of weird looks from his fellow glee club members that shared the class with him but he ignored them. He wouldn’t know how to begin explaining.
During the passing period, Blaine finally had the time to go through his bag. Wedged between one of his textbooks and his calculator was a tiny stuffed puppy with a bowtie tied around one of his ears. Blaine cooed in delight.
Blaine waited as long as he could at his locker, hoping that Kurt would show up and explain but the taller boy never did. However, when Blaine walked into class, sitting on his desk was a tiny bouquet of sunflowers.
Your smile reminds me of the sun.
The first time Blaine saw Kurt that day was at lunch. Blaine was already sitting down at the table with the rest of the glee club when Kurt walked in. He had fully expected Kurt to come over and sit next to him like he normally did but Kurt just grabbed some fruit to eat before leaving the cafeteria. Blaine didn’t notice he had gotten to his feet and followed Kurt until he was out in the hallway and trying to figure out which direction Kurt had gone in. He wandered around for a few minutes, trying to find Kurt again, but had no luck. Slightly disappointed, Blaine checked the last place on his list (the choir room) but Kurt was nowhere to be found. However, in the choir room, on top of the piano, sat a small stack of piano books with Blaine’s name written neatly in Kurt’s cursive on them. Blaine flipped through the books. Broadway classics, Top 100 Songs, and Disney Classics. A grin crossed his face. Kurt knew him so well.
The notes and presents continued like that for the rest of the day. Stuffed in his gym locker was a note that read, You’re stronger than you look, along with a new gym outfit. On the desk of his last class, there was a picture of a puppy and a note that read, Puppies are much cuter than any meerkat in existence. It didn’t take long at all for Blaine to realize that the meerkat Kurt was talking about was Sebastian. The resemblance was uncanny, after all.
By the time his last class was done, Blaine couldn't take it any more. He flew down the hallways to his locker, where one last note was taped to it.
Skip glee and come with me?
Blaine almost choked at the implication but it made more sense once he saw Kurt beckoning to him from down the hall. He followed, wanting answers. Kurt led Blaine out to the parking lot and they stopped at his car.
“So…” Blaine began. Kurt gave Blaine a sheepish grin, giving Blaine the courage to continue.
“Not that I’m complaining, but what’s the occasion?”
Kurt shrugged.
“No occasion,” he replied. “I just wanted to show how loved you are.”
Tears welled up in the corner of Blaine’s eyes. He pulled Kurt close to him, giving the taller boy a gentle peck on the lips. Kurt smiled and kissed Blaine gently back. When the two pulled away, Blaine only had one thing to say.
Summary: Blaine has a special reason to drag Kurt to Times Square the morning of New Year’s Eve.
“Kuuuurrrtt!” Blaine whined. “Slow down, I’m so full I can barely move!”
Kurt turned around and walked back to where his boyfriend stood on the sidewalk. He grabbed his hand and pulled him along behind him. “Come on, lazy bones! We’ve got stuff to do.”
“Ugh, I feel like I’m going to die, but in the best possible way. That is seriously the best breakfast I’ve ever had.”
Kurt stopped dead in his tracks, turned to look at Blaine, and cocked one eyebrow up as far as it would go. “Excuse me? The crepes I made you yesterday meant nothing to you?”
Blaine quickly backtracked, grinning. “Okay, second best breakfast. But definitely the best coffee I’ve tasted in my entire life.”
“Ha, you’re not wrong there! I do like my little K-cups, but nothing compares to the coffee here. I knew you’d love Le Pain.”
Blaine stepped forward so he was directly behind Kurt, wrapped his arms around his boyfriend’s waist, and rested his chin on his shoulder. “I also really love the way you say Le Pain,” he intoned in a thick, exaggerated French accent.
Kurt grinned, but wiggled away from Blaine as he moved in for a kiss. “Not here, Blaine,” he said softly, “You know how I feel about that.” He took his hand instead, letting their arms swing gently between them as they resumed walking down the sidewalk.
“Really, Kurt? I mean, in Ohio avoiding PDA is just self-preservation, but we’re in New York! You’ve lived here for months now, you know how it is. No one would even think twice about two guys kissing on the sidewalk.”
“I know, I know,” Kurt shrugged. “I guess I’m just still getting used to it.”
“Well get used to it quickly, babe. I’m only here for two more days, and there’s only so much I can do to you with Rachel hanging around the apartment all the time,” Blaine murmured into Kurt’s ear as he snaked an arm around his hips, letting his hand just barely graze across his ass as he pulled him in close. Kurt blushed and stammered, glancing around to see if any of the passersby had noticed, and when he turned back, Blaine planted a quick kiss on his lips with a noisy smack.
“See?” he whispered with big, goofy smile. “Now come on, I want to go to Times Square, but you’ve got to lead the way!”
“Times Square?” Kurt asked as they crossed the road. “I didn’t think you were serious about that.”
“Of course I am! I didn’t get to see it last time I was here, because, well…”
“We were dealing with other things,” Kurt finished. “But we’re good now, so I thought we agreed not to talk about that?”
“Right. Why wouldn’t I be serious about wanting to see Times Square?”
“Because it may only be 10 in the morning, but it’s still New Year’s Eve, Blaine. People will already be camped out there waiting to watch the ball drop tonight.”
“So? We’ll just get as close as we can, grab a few pictures, then go window shop on 5th Avenue or something.”
Kurt sighed. “Okay, if that’s what you want, I guess that’s what we’ll do.”
“Yes! Thank you, Kurt, you’re the best boyfriend in the world.” Blaine nearly squealed, grabbing a startled Kurt in a quick hug, then leaving his arm around him as they walked. After a minute and a few more nervous glances, Kurt wrapped his arm around Blaine as well and leaned into his side as they walked the last few blocks to the heart of the city.
“See, told you it’d be packed already,” Kurt said as they weaved their way through the milling crowds.
“And I told you I didn’t care. This is the perfect spot,” he said, abruptly coming to a halt.
“Perfect spot for what?” Kurt asked.
“For this,” Blaine whispered as he took Kurt’s face in his hands and leaned forward to kiss him deeply and full on the mouth, lips parting and tongues starting to slide together.
“Blaine!” Kurt broke away with a gasp. “I know it’s New York, but we’re not exactly alone. What was that for?”
Leaving his arms draped loosely around Kurt’s neck, Blaine looked deep into his boyfriend’s eyes. “Because 2012 was kind of a rough year for us—“
“Blaine, don’t…”
“No, I’m not just talking about that, Kurt. From my eye surgery and family issues to you not getting into NYADA… well, we’ve dealt with a lot. But we made it through, and we’re stronger people because of it. And now we’re in New York together, and the year is almost over, and even though it’s not midnight yet, all I want to do is kiss my incredible boyfriend in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.”
Kurt smiled, blinking rapidly to keep the happy tears from surfacing. “Then kiss me, you handsome fool.”
They surged towards each other again, Blaine’s hands weaving into Kurt’s hair as Kurt gripped the lapels of Blaine’s jacket to pull him closer. They kissed with abandon, far too passionately and intimately for a cold mid-morning in a public place, but neither of them noticed or cared. When they finally broke apart, faces flushed and lips red, Blaine stepped away to tap a young woman on the shoulder, asking her to take pictures for them.
They posed together, laughing, hugging, and kissing, until they were sure that they’d have at least a few good photos. Blaine took his camera back and held it at arm’s length, ready to capture one last picture.
“No matter what happens this year, Kurt, I’m here for you and I will always, always love you.”
Kurt leaned forward to rest his forehead against Blaine’s. “I love you too. I’ve loved you from the moment we met, and nothing will ever make me stop.”
Blaine’s camera captured the moment as their lips met for one more slow, sweet, kiss.
