meat puppets chicago show

i’m no reviewer and i live in the moment. i am so into each song that if you asked me for a run-down of the songs afterwards, i couldn’t give you one! i normally don’t even take pics of bands. i did, however, take a photo of a really old (originally gas) chandelier before the show.

subterranean upstairs is so small...and i went upstairs of the upstairs so i could sit for awhile and give my broken back a rest. so, yeah, there are two stages, and the puppets played at the smaller of the two :-O, of which i was upstairs the whole time.

i sat for the opening act, hitter. i enjoyed their set, but the band had too much of that “evil is cool” vibe that bugs me but is attractive to many people (who like that type of music). when meat puppets went on, i ditched my chair and leaned over the railing so that i could see every band member except elmo :-( (it wasn’t possible to see him unless i went to the other side of the upstairs)

curt walked by me before the first band’s set and i said "hey, curt". he said "hi it's nice to see you". i think he actually might recognize me from the number of times they played in milwaukee over these past years. 2x i got autographs and a photo. i saw cris and said “hey, cris!”. i think he thought maybe i knew him personally until he got a good look at me. he looked like he might give a hug, but lowered his arms. i didn't want to be too forward or “crazy fan” so i squeezed his shoulder and said "knock em dead". he said "if you say so" then i said "aw, you will, you will" and left it at that.

the show was great as i had expected. i did shout out “blue green god!” towards the end, but i might not ever get to hear that live. oh well. maybe people think i’m joking, but i’m totally serious--i LOVE that tune. sadly, my bf isn’t a fan, but i’m glad he went with this time. of course he recognized “backwater”...
