Four Friends in the Tavern
“You know it will be dangerous right?” Eps swirled the spoon in his drink, not making eye contact with the others. “You don’t think it would be more dangerous alone?” Varli responded. Both Quartz and Themros murmured in agreement.
“Besides,” piped up Quartz, “your father was kind to all of us. It would be an honor to help you find him.”
“It’s been what? Eight years?” Themeros looked as if he was struggling to remember. “Eleven.” Eps corrected, finally looking up at the group. “Eleven years he’s been gone on that order of the King.”
“If we’re doing this, we are going to need supplies. Armor, weapons, herbs.” Quartz was doing mental math on the cost. “That’s like...”
“A lot,” Eps interrupted. “I thought about that and have a few solutions. But before that, are you guys sure. Really, really sure?”
“What’s the alternative. Stay here the rest of our lives?” Varli scoffed. “Dangerous or not, I’d rather be out there helping a friend.”Themeros nodded, followed by Quartz. Tears came to Eps’ eyes, which he wiped away with the back of his hand. “Thank you guys. Thank you so much!”
“Don’t thank us yet. We gotta leave this place first.” Varli leaned forward in her chair. “So what’s your plan?”
