would it be weird to say Hello Rosie feels like the only episode where the characters feel like their pilot characterizations (beyond the Carmine and Vaggie subplot)

It definitely had a flicker of something here and there that felt very bittersweet.

So we just got the first commercial for the first of the new one-hour movie specials ("D.W. and the Beastly Birthday)! What's your thoughts?

to be honest, tbh, tb perfectly h, my first thought is “please god someone hire me to help out with the animation i’ll do all the gd inbetweens myself if it means getting away from these stiff-ass flash puppets”

BUT. that said. it looks like an interesting concept! from the previews, the animation isn’t AS wooden as i’ve seen in some of the other episodes so that’s... something. but it looks like a fun concept, doing a spin off Where The Wild Things Are. could be good! :0

Thoughts on what we've heard so far about the new mini-movie specials coming later this year (DW and the Beastly Birthday and Arthur and the Haunted Treehouse)?

hopefully they’re good!! arthur hasn’t done many full half-hour specials so it’s always neat to see them have a bit more time to spin out a story. they seem like they might be promising :0

Thank you ssSOOO MUCH for this response bc the Hamburg production is the only one out of the 4 that I haven't seen (sure I flew to London for this one but iii. don't speak German so didn't think it appropriate to do it for that one fgjgjgfgjh) and now I can add this knowledge to my mental running compare/contrast

After I saw the Paper Mill production in NJ I wrote a (much much shorter) collection of my thoughts at the time that I didn't put up on Tumblr, but I did not do anything of the sort after I saw the Public Works production and in retrospect, I really wish I did because I don't SUPER remember it and I wonder if my memory of it being the best is simply clouded by nostalgia, time, and these two slightly strange productions!

From my biased nostalgia-clouded memory, Public Works changed the least amount from the OG as far as story goes, though still with new songs added, I think i walked away COMPLETELY satisfied and yet it's totally possible that I cut them sooo much slack because it was staged in the outdoor amphitheater of Central Park and they really hammed up the Minimalist Ancient Greek Theater angle. SUCH a fun angle and shtick to do with Disney Hercules, of all shows, oh my god. Everyone in matching white chitons and togas and robes, simple props and puppetry, masks and staging with lots of pantomime, a literal Greek chorus with the Muses on stage the whole time, it was just sooooooooo so so so much fun and I (now, 6 years later) feel like I walked away with no big critiques.

I knew a lot would change once they moved it indoors (aaaaaaand they can keep changing the story bc I continue to be thrilled by the glitz and glam of the fun sets and Disney Money Costumes/Staging) but it's only then that major story aspects began to change? Again, it's possible there were changes during Public Works at Delacorte and I wrote them off at the time because ah well, they're outside and minimalist there's only so much they can do!

Hades in the Paper Mill production was the worst ever. I still have no idea if he was written like this or if it was a weird acting choice but he was played as a solemn and somber villain, the show ground to a sludge every time he was onstage, barely a single joke, excruciating. helloooooo wwhwhhyyyyY. He did have really cool pyrotechnics at least though! West End Hades and Public Works Hades had zero fire but both nailed the personality.
