“I know she’s your best friend and all, but what the hell is this gossip talking about? You told me about the kiss, but—” Sofia paused as she looked to Brooks for some sort of confirmation in her words. “Is there something more going on?” It was a stressful enough day, and she knew it was probably the most inconvenient time to bring it up as they were headed to his parents’ house to announce their big news, but as the nerve caught up to her, Sofia had to blurt it out to get it off her mind.

This was just one of the many runs he seemed to be making for Sofia lately, but one of the oddest. “Really? Chocolate sauce to go with your pickles? Our son is going to have the weirdest favorite foods because of this.” There was a smile on his face as he spoke to her on the phone, “Whatever you say. I’ll be there soon. I love you, bye.” Brooks hung up, placing his phone in his pocket before looking over. His eyes rolled, “I don’t see you enough already at work?”
It wasn’t technically eavesdropping if Pearl had no intention of hearing what she had heard in the first place. And when she recognized the voice, she had to confirm that it was actually him saying all those things on the phone. Pearl looked up to the man, smile taut across her face, putting two and two together from the side of the conversation she heard. “We clearly don’t see enough of each other or else I would know that you’re expecting a son?” It certainly was a new piece of information that she hadn’t heard of through the bakery, and it needed to be added to her repertoire of things she had on him, all for the purposes of blackmail of course.

letting himself into the familiar apartment, elvie distractedly pocketed his key and stepped inside. “hey,” he called casually, well aware that cass probably didn’t want to see him, but oh well. “you here?” they’d both been in california at the same time, but strangely enough elvie couldn’t remember having crossed paths with the other even once over the course of their stay. / @theminefield
“wow,” murmured elvie, more to himself than to his cousin. he’s been expecting this for months, but somehow now that astrid is really here, fast asleep beneath her father’s watchful eyes, it feels more real than ever. “how’s it been?” he asked cass, folding his arms. it feels like a stupid question. cass and luna are probably overwhelmed and exhausted, but elvie doesn’t know the first thing about being a parent. / @theminefield

elvie: hey so my mom wants to know who's coming to thanksgiving dinner
elvie: and if you're gonna be staying at our house for those few days. it'd probably be the 21st - 25th?
elvie: you should come. you could bring luna if you want.
“cass!” elvie called as he stepped into the apartment, pocketing the spare key aunt beth gave to him. he knows that his cousin doesn’t really care for elvie’s random visits, but ever since luna got pregnant he’s been trying to be more present for his cousin’s sake. ( trip to california notwithstanding. ) “cass, you here?” / @theminefield
“I knew I’d somehow find you over here.” Nate saw Brooks, large grin pulled at his face as he managed to give a short grin towards his friend. “How are things hanging?” He knew he had a lot of shit going on in both of their lives, and with the potluck, it seemed like the best place to get drunk for free. “I mean, I know I’m not drunk enough to talk to you entirely yet, but really, who cares. My life seems to have some sort of organization to it again. Things might be looking up for me.”
