trouble is a friend of mine by stephanie tromly
heist society by ally carter
the girl from everywhere by heidi heilig (kinda)
book rec aesthetics!!
hello! could i request an andaman treepie, if you haven’t done one of those? your birbs are SO GORGEOUS!
you can! i haven’t done one of those, so it’ll be on 271. be warned though, it might be a while before i get to it- i draw these when i can and sometimes it is a very long time before i find the time and energy to draw these birds. i don’t plan on giving up yet, but it’s part of the challenge to keep it going lol.
thank you! i’m really happy with how a lot of these have come out and having to look through the earlier ones today made me realize how much i’ve improved.
#squad for ALL, wardrobe and mixtape for Alina!!!!
yayyy thanks for the ask!
#squad: who’s friends with who? what’s the squad dynamic like?Man I have too many OCs for this. Ummm okay so…
Ninja bear squad: Hagen and Flint are best friends and Kalia is kinda a childhood friend of theirs as well. Kalia is mostly a protector to Jonathan so they’re friends but not really. Matt and Bartholomew are the two friends who everyone else knows is in love but they won’t admit it and instead just have a lot of playful banter. Kalia and Matt also become bros over time. They’re kinda the leaders/planners while Hagen and Flint are the muscle and Bartholomew and Jonathan are useless.
Holland + Alina Squad: Holland and Alina are in love and also best friends. Mike is Holland’s other best friend and then Mike’s husband is kinda just off to the side. I wanted to develop another good friend of theirs to be Alina’s best friend and fighting buddy but I never got there :(
Merriwald Squad: Ana and Ismael have been best friends since they were kids. Maris and El become best friends once they meet at school. Callisto’s best friends are Dani and June and they also have a friends-with-cuddles relationship with June. Dani and June are the life of the party while Ana and Ismael are the Tough Guys, Maris is the Gentle Friend, Callisto is the Mysterious One, and El somehow ends up being squad leader.
Treaty City Squad (the squad I’m writing about with @theminism!): Tavi and Leila are childhood friends-now-in-a-long-term-relationship, Roseli and Nym have been best friends since they were little. Roseli also has a good friend named Luka who she was briefly in a relationship with which led to lots of tension between him and Nym. Wil kinda starts out on his own but then he meets his long-lost sister, Nym, and they become pretty good friends. Tavi also befriends Wil and then ends up dating him as well. Their’s a shit ton of tension in the squad because they all have different goals and sometimes blame each other for stuff so there’s kinda different sides.
Fallen Gods Squad (the newest addition to the crew!): Ylo befriends Zeke and Katy (and then dates both of them - they are my OT3), so then Zeke and Katy also become friends. Ylo likes to ignore his own issues and focus on helping his friends because they’ve got Trauma. So Ylo is like “wow I love you guys so much and want to protect you” and Katy’s like “cool thanks let me help you scheme though because I’m smart” and Zeke’s like “I don’t protection because I’m STRAIGHT except I’m secretly falling in love with you and I don’t know how to handle my emotions.” Uhhh so that’s the squad dynamic I guess.
mixtape: 5 songs that describe your OC(s) or songs they themselves would like.Oh man I haven’t written any Alina stuff in so long..she’d like poppy acoustic stuff probably, just gentle love songs and stuff. I’m too lazy to actually find 5 songs…
wardrobe: what’s your OC(s) style like?Alina’s style is femme/comfy/athletic, so lots of loose shirts and cute leggings and fancy sports bras!
hello hi! you seem to have a similar taste in books as me -- i'm just starting to have time to read again, and i love trc and soc. is there any chance you could give me a list of recommendations??
wHOOPS I’m so sorry, I have no idea how long this has been sitting here - tumblr has decided not to give me ask notifications anymore, apparently :’D SORRY.
Unfortunately I’m in kinda the same boat (I only started reading regularly again last summer), but I can certainly give some recommendations!!
A Darker Shade of Magic/A Gathering of Shadows by Victoria Schwab - OH BOY. I’ve fallen a little in love with Victoria Schwab recently. These are the first two books in the Shades of Magic series, the third and last of which comes out in February (SO EXCITED). It’s a fantasy series set across different parallel worlds - Red London, Gray London, White London, and Black London. The main characters are a boy with a magical coat who can travel between the worlds, and a girl thief with absolutely 0 chill. It has magic and pirates and royalty and a couple of fantastic bi characters. I ADORE the worldbuilding and V. E. Schwab’s writing in general.
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab (again lol) - The author described this book as “Sin City PLUS Romeo and Juliet MINUS romance PLUS monsters,” which is fantastically accurate. The main characters are a teenage boy/monster who eats souls (but isn’t very happy about it) and a girl who’s the daughter of the city’s ruthless monster hunter. It’s darker imo than Shades of Magic or TRC, but I also found it inspiring in a bittersweet sort of way. Truly awesome. The sequel comes out in June!!
The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo - I’m not sure if you’ll have read this already, as it’s set in the same ‘verse as Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom - it’s the prequel series! A lot of people say it’s not quite as good as SoC/CC, and I’m inclined to agree - the main character doesn’t seem quite so fleshed out as the awesome SoC gang - but I think it’s definitely still worth a read. The universe is as good as ever, and you get to learn a lot more about how Grisha powers work, which I think is really interesting!
Vicious by Victoria Schwab (I’m sorry I love her) - I’ve not finished this one yet, but it’s super good so far. It’s about superpowers and murder and bitter rivalries. Again, it’s pretty dark, but it does a fantastic job of having main characters who are bad (like, really bad) without them being totally unlikable and uninteresting. Oftentimes the heroes and villains toe the risky line between being too melodramatic and taking themselves too seriously, but in self-aware kind of way that I really love.
So I know that’s not many recommendations (and not a huge variety of authors either, LMAO), but hopefully there’s a few there you’ll like! :D My own reading list is a mile long but I’m slowly and surely working through it - so hopefully I’ll have some more recs soon!
@theminism i spotted ur cat trying to buy groceries on kosmonavt street in moscow, russian federation. please come pick him up he can’t push the cart
hi so sorry for going through your entire spn gender studies tag and leaving notes on it (it’s probably split between theminism and the-michaelsword and i’m at fault for both oops) but it’s just some FASCINATING stuff. you do a damn good job of exploring and explaining some of the more mystifying things in that soap opera of a gender studies class and it’s fantastic. tysm ily
Akgkdjvfjdf this ask is SO OLD I'm so sorry for the extreme delay! But no need to apologize, thank you for the lovely compliment, and I'm glad you enjoyed my ramblings about the gender/jender of it all! 🥰
a question that just occurred to me, a couple years too late: would a planetary laundromat be a place where planets go to do their laundry, or a place to get your planets washed?
wow throwback
i think at the time i was thinking of something in between a place to get your planets washed, and a laundromat the size of a planet, where All Manner Of Things May Be Washed, but i like the idea of a place where planets do their laundry. spirited away vibes, but with more gravitational distortion
