That is not how you normally start an uplifting post, is it? But believe it or not, it fits.
For the first time in about three weeks, I ran tonight. NOT pretty. I have gained back weight from being an inactive boor, and and indulging in ridiculously poor eating and drinking habits. That’s on me. I earned it, I deserve it.
The toe thing, (I smashed the fucker a couple weeks ago), was a bitch. Would NOT heal, at times, had a problem even walking on it. But while not a 100% tonight, I decided to give it a go.
Good 1/4 mile warm up walk, then I “ran” a 1/2 mile. SMH. Felt like every joint and muscle in my legs was like WTF? Had to slow down and walk another 1/4 mile to allow my calf to uncramp. Ran another 1/2 mile. Another 1/4 mile walk. Finally, was on a good run, got 1 1/4 miles in, but after a basic month of inactivity, that was all she wrote. Got a good walk in after, to allow the muscles to unwind.
And while you may have read that and thought “Jesus, what a LOSER”, it was a start. I know that within a short time, I can be back to running 6 miles again. But you start, (and sometimes restart), somewhere. One step, one 1/2 mile at a time.
And even if it wasn’t glorious and heroic, it made me feel good. Honestly, I needed it to get back on track. Just Jesus GOD, do NOT tell Lisa that!
Take one step. Then another. And one more after that. From humble beginnings...
