So they're doing things! I'm almost certain I've got the chart down pat, and despite the super tiny misstep of the above cat (Charlie) breaking both strands of yarn a couple days ago (thankfully giving me long tails), things are happening! I really need to pick up some steam if I want to finish both mittens by the 6th, though.

One mistake I've made was my method for holding the thumb stitches—I don't think using worsted was too bad a call, but using a dark navy yarn? Yeah, that wasn't the brightest idea in a mostly black mitten. I'll have to use my phone's super intense flashlight when I pick up those stitches.

And for people who've had as much trouble as me: for the thumb gusset increases, I did a yarn-over of the color I needed in the increase row and knitted into those through the back loop on the next row, and it worked out well enough! Check out this post for more info!

Nope, I kind of enjoy it!  Though it would definitely be nice if people started figuring out a way to avoid the awkwardness.  (It's not too hard to just say "hello" instead of "hello sir/ma'am")

It was fun, gave me a much needed laugh!

The other day my coworker dragged me to Chipotle and the person first addressed me as "sir" asked what I wanted, I spoke, said "Oh, ma'am, sorry!  Uh... I like your hair!"  I think she would have said it anyway but the way she said it was as if it was to make doing that better.

Even just picking one and sticking with it until corrected would work.  Though I kind of enjoy the uncertainty.

What yarn are you talking about? The yarn I'm using is a handspun sheep 2 shoe kit from Blue Moon Fibers

That sounds so frustrating :/ Typically for fingering weight you'd CO 64 stitches, DK/sport 48, and Worsted 40. My yarn ended up being between DK and worsted so I CO 56 stitches and then knitted for an inch or so and compared to my previously made socks that fit. Sounds like you need to recheck gauge (message me if you're unsure how to do that!) and overall need more stitches
