“I know you are not a Catholic man but I couldn’t help myself with using that line.” Passing gave a soft chuckle. “Feels as if it be something in a movie.”

She wandered deeper inside the building looking about before speaking again. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a place such as this. Not the time, I’m afraid.”

“It’s been in every horror movie and show that ever involved Christianity, I’m pretty sure.” Joseph watched as she explored the sanctuary. Really it was by luck he’d seen her come in, or else he’d still be back in his office working in the annex.

“Luckily God doesn’t judge you for how long it’s been since you’ve come to visit. He’s a forgiving father like that. Is there anything that I can help you with?”

“You’re welcome. I spoke to the members of the church the other night, some of them are putting together care packages for you guys. Things like non perishable food, tooth brushes, socks, tooth paste, that kind of thing.

“I don’t know I mean… I should?” Passing sighed looking tired and worn down.

She couldnt quite recall when the last time she had eaten more then a few bites. Medical expenses had taken most of the funds from work and the rest was to make sure the younger ones didn’t go without until payday rolled around.

“I’m just having a rough time of things right now and it just hits you.”

“Life isn’t the easiest for a kid of the system.  Worse still if you aren’t…” Passing paused trying to think of how to explain herself. Her eyes distant as she muttered. “A lot of parents just… they want infants or young kids that don’t have additonal needs. A lot of abuse of various kinds that way.”

Joseph’s face softened. It was difficult. Not that he had first hand experience being in the system, but he knew what it was like being homeless and penniless and having part of him rejected by his family. He nodded solemnly. “Yes, it is a huge problem. Is there anything that I or the church can do to help? I’m a man of God but even I know that prayer only goes so far.”

"Forgive me Father for I have sinned." Her eyes caught the light as she looked up and towards Joseph giving the appearance as if they glowed gold if just for a moment. The thirty year old smiled amused to herself. "But we all sin do we not? I wonder what your sins are Father." (Passing from themoonies)

Joseph turned to see the woman speaking to him, his brows furrowed in confusion. “I think you have me mistaken for someone else, I’m not Catholic, you have a one way ticket to speak to the Lord yourself without going through the clergy. But yes, we’re all sinners as we were all born into sin. My sins are between myself and the Lord.”

That was never something you wanted to hear from anyone. Joseph frowned at the troubling comment. “I’m sorry. Would you like to talk about it?”

"Hello, you in today?" Passing called out as she stepped into the church down where the pot luck had been last week. There was a three year old on her hip sleeping peacefully and a wide eyed nine year old in tow. (Passing, themoonies)

It was unusual to hear other voices in the church outside of the other employees when there wasn’t a service or event happening. Joseph looked up from his computer curiously, vaguely recognizing the voice, and went to investigate. He smiled when he saw Passing. “I’m here every day, it’s nice to see you again.”
