Happy Independence Day to my fellow Liberians!!! As I get older, I do my best to learn more and more about my dad's home country. I grew up with my Southern black Louisiana mom so my upbringing was based on Louisiana culture and southern roots. Here's a little history lesson for you. The Liberian flag looks relatively similar to the American flag because it was the country was founded by free people of color and freed slaves from America. Depending on their family background, you'll meet some Liberians who have very traditional American last names.
