24: Talk about something someone told you that meant a lot.

During my first week at work last year, at my first company meetiing, the CEO basically told is that mistakes aren’t something we should ignore/be ashamed of because they help us learn. He said without them, we will never grow and improve. That was a huge deal for me to hear, because I spent 24 years of my life afraid of mistakes and afraid of getting my driver’s license and a job because I was afraid of failure. But here I was at my first job ever, and it was really inspiring. I finally saw the whole picture instead of the singular event of making a mistake and feeling depressed about it.

"things you said with no space between us" for Carolina & York!

"You said you just wanted to feel alive, and even I thought that was cliche,” York remembered in the darkness, fingers tracing a circle around Carolina’s bare shoulder.

"I used to watch a lot of sappy movies," she explained with a grin. "You started it."

"What? How? You were the one with that terrible pick up line."

"Which worked."

"Well, obviously, but that doesn’t - that’s not the point."

"You said, and I quote, ‘I never dreamed I’d get this lucky’. You started it." She nudged forward until the top of her head rests into his neck, cheek against his chest.

"That was the truth. You just don’t appreciate my poetical expressions."

"Throw a rock at the romance section of a discount video store and you’ll hit at least three movies where that line is said verbatim."

He chuckled, moving her head with his breaths. “Alright, maybe, maybe I had a little Hollywood help. Not all of us are quick with our words and wit mid-fuck.”

She turned in the bed to look at the ceiling with him, stretching her arm out and arching her back as she re-positioned. “I’ll give you that one.” She found his hand with hers, lacing their fingers together with practiced ease. “You said I was beautiful, so beautiful.” It was soft and quiet and private, in a way they hadn’t been.

"You are. You know you are, and I show, I try to tell-"

She shook her head slightly. “I know. But…but you don’t say it, not like that. Not here.” She turned again, this time to kiss him. “It’s fine. It doesn’t belong here.”

"Do you feel alive?" he said in the enveloping silence.

She looked up at the ceiling of his room, gray and dark and metal and cold. “Inescapably,” she whispered back, and closed her eyes.
