Why do we say "mittens for your kittens?" Mother Goose wrote a rhyme and now we attach our mittens with clips and elastic so we don't lose them. Because, as the poem says, we won't be able to imbibe in pie. No pie if you've lost your mittens? In those days, mittens weren't easily replaced, so think about facing sub-zero temps without them for the rest of winter. Ah, no. // Inevitably, I find a small mitten on the trail behind our house in the spring. Some small child in a stroller has discarded one along a walk and no one noticed. We place the found mitten or glove on a sturdy branch so that it's owner will hopefully find it on their next outing. At times, there are so many it looks like the tree branches are reaching out for a handshake as you pass. // As much as we love to bemoan the snow in these parts, we also delight in spending time in the sun and fresh snow for all sorts of activities.
