This sounds like an amazing setting but I can’t help but kinda wonder about the stated abhumans origins

Other living things have been seen in the darkness, some of unknown origins, and others that may once have been human. Hodgson uses the term "Abhuman" to name several different species of intelligent beings evolved from humans who interbred with alien species or adapted to changed environmental conditions, and are seen as decayed or maligned by those living inside the Last Redoubt.

Aliens...the idea of Earth once having contact with aliens and now long since abandoned as a desolate wasteland... probably living it up with the rich humans who got off planet in some space-structure built around a giant power generator made around collapsed stars.

Or gone all transhumanist

Meanwhile the inhabitants of Earth cling on, alone, abandoned...awaiting the end.

I've been listening to an audio book of Henry Hope Hodgson's dark fantasy love story the Night Land and I have fallen in love with the story, characters and world. Here are a couple of sketches inspired by characters from the book.
