beloved cringefail moment! im not talking about the streams/charts but as in “what were you thinking?” 1) the album cover— not good! it doesn’t elicit anything, no visual aid & there were SUCH good options (it’s not an album by the sea where the album cover was clicked; it’s an album in the garden, in the hearth) WHO introduced her to glitter hearts, i just wanna talk

2) the songs— some good, mostly bad. if i go chronologically, iftye is such a shrink (why are we beginning w indifference on an album named LOVEr) then cruel summer is the best song ever. MA&THP is in the same league to me as the man, ynctd. no song makes me as happy as London Boy— truly the only camp on the album. i don’t think daylight is the best closing song ever but i do think a red/daylight mashup that never happened would’ve changed my mind.

3) the choices— I think this is taylor’s most “in between” album. instead of focusing on the “good stuff” the album had, we got ME!, YNTCD like this is a pop girlie who CAN do pop then she does this.. Most of the love songs were just plain neglected (lover, cruel summer, paper rings, itnhaf, daylight, lb) when these are the songs that most live upto the album’s dignity and name. I want Taylor to write political songs, I just don’t think she was ready then! at her heart, she’ll always be a songwriter (which is something she realised during folklore) who writes songs about love, anxiety, introspection and this is exactly what the prologue read but sonically it didn’t deliver.

4) the theme— This is lover (2019)’s biggest problem. there’s no fulfilling theme, no continuity, an album about love and positivity can’t be summed up by having a pastel photoshoot. Cruel Summer should’ve been the lead single (think: neon lights, confessesions, speakeasy, new love— the bar), Lover should’ve been second (exactly how the mv is, final love —the home) and BAM! we are already introduced to the two sides of the album. every song in between is the ‘car ride’ towards home, which is so fitting for an album supposedly abt Joe? I also have a playlist for this. a perfect world where there is no me!, paper rings is in a Rom-com, London Boy is the 3rd single (for when she tours) and the Dixie chicks actually get to sing.

i think it’s about harry, in fact she strongly implies that because she literally sampled ootw lmao. it’s about their rs and how he was kinda denying stuff about her (his friends made fun of him) and they were hiding but he was also bragging. the dickhead guy line literally reminds me of the unreleased harry song that leaked a few months ago. the song literally lays out their whole situation from miscommunication to being with other people to not trying harder and being in different places. and the song makes me chuckle lol.
