Okay, there’s quite a few posts about Shawn’s super obvious crush on Pierre Despereaux.

Which is awesome. But how come I never see posts about how much Pierre clearly loves the way Shawn feels about him?

He may not say anything, but his expression says it all. His self satisfied smirk whenever Shawn compliments him, calls him the coolest man alive or whatever other things his infatuated mind can come up with. The way he melts at the way Shawn looks at him, amused and flattered and so so appreciative.

And it’s clearly important to him too, not just a nice bonus. He wants, needs Shawn to adore him, to a point where he risks a lot to escape from prison for one more job. He doesn’t need the money, he’s filthy rich. It really is just to impress Shawn, to prove he really is all Shawn thought him to be. A goal he openly admits to Shawn, to his face. After having spent a lot of. money to have him come to visit him.

Now, yeah, he uses Shawn to escape from prison - but impressing Shawn is also the only reason he does that in the first place.

So - he might like to act detached, but Pierre is absolutely not normal about Shawn either. He is allowing and enabling Shawn’s teenage girl crush completely.

Okay, I've seen some characterisations of Moreau as this innocent poor bean who just wants to be liked.

And while I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade, I just feel like that isn't entirely correct.

Getting mother Miranda's approval certainly seems his main goal, yeah. But that doesn't mean he's just some naive sweet bean starved for affection. He still murders innocent people without any issue.

I think he's well-aware of how people see him. Something disgusting to stay away from and maybe vaguely pity. And he uses this for his own gain. (for example to stall Ethan, before actively making fun of him for falling for the ruse).

But I don't think he likes it. I think he hates how he looks, he hates that people see him as disgusting and pitiful, and don't take him seriously. They underestimate him, which is useful, but I think that leads to a lot of loathing. Loathing of others, for seeing and treating him this way, and loathing for himself, for playing the role strategically, instead of trying to change the situation he's unhappy with. And all that loathing leads to destructive desperate anger and hate.
