everyone always acts so aghast about the whole “the doctor kidnapped his first companions!” thing which yeah obviously terrifying from ian and barbara’s pov but you really gotta look at it from the angle of “guy who just ran away from home comes across someone breaking into his car and in a panic locks the doors hits the gas and now they’re all very very lost” and then it becomes hysterical

This is our brand new science fiction adventure character, he's a scientist and an old man. He's in a TV show called Doctor Who. He's credited as Dr Who. All production documents call him Dr Who. All promotional material calls him Dr Who. The novel adaptations call him Dr Who. The movie adaptations call him Dr Who. The original tie-in fiction calls him Dr Who. And week one of his TV show he's going to meet a guy who's like "What's your name? What do we call you?" and our hero is going to be like "hohoho hehehe you dumb motherfucker. Never talk to me again." And then he's never ever going to give anyone his goddamn name.

My favourite thing about dr who is the number of excuses the writers need to find so they don't tardis away immediately when they go to an untouristy place

I think my favourite is "tardis just in a bad mood for the next 45 - 180 plot relevant minutes" although the first doctor's "oh no the tardis is broken, anyway let's have a look at that interesting nuclear hell city over there" is also up there
