best classes:
symphony casting: type of wordless magic that relies on music. the wizard is expected to use the rhythms and refrains of the music to direct their magic
sword casting: channeling magic through a fencing sword instead of a standard wand
poseidon craft: a branch of nature magic left over by the romans. spells are all cast wandlessly, and mainly based on ritual – rituals that were practiced in temples of poseidon from the days of yore. focuses on invoking monster waves, waking up mythological creatures, and survival at sea
worst classes:
gem-crafting: a branch of alchemy that teaches students how to synthesise stones and jewels with particular powers
magical theory of reactions: although the bare bones of this course came out of an advanced theory of potions and alchemy class, it has expanded to include the magic of any amount of forces meeting together and the reactions that their cooperation engenders
elective courses:
show-dueling: half-dueling half-performance, this class teaches students to crush their opponents with skill but also to dazzle the onlookers with elaborate spells
flower divination: an obscure class that centers around counting petals to determine the outcome of a yes/no question. each type of question requires a special type of flower, and how you pluck the flower reveals an answer you weren’t looking for
extracurricular activities:
quidditch: this is self explanatory
channel surfing: catch some magical waves across the english channel! enchant your own waves to carry you to the british isles. this is a favourite activity of beauxbatons students when they travel up north enough to do it. pisses the british off to no end
additional duties:
captain of the beauxbatons quidditch team: this one is self-explanatory
brasswind player in beauxbatons orchestra: learn to play a variety of different brasswind instruments, both wizarding and muggle-inspired. this section is the loudest in the orchestra, and all brasswind instruments shoot out multicoloured sparks from the bell
favourite haunts:
beauxbatons quidditch pitch: an expansive field on the other side of the beauxbatons garden. when there are no games being played and no practise scheduled, students like to picnic there and hang out or study
the fields behind the gardens: if you walk far enough, the legendary beauxbatons garden gives way to a beautiful meadow, typical of southern france. it’s a beautiful place to relax, but also a great place to run around and explore; perhaps you’ll find something interesting
pet: red kiteshort drabble:
you want to be heard. you want to be the thundering of storms, the howling of wind, the furious crash of seawater against stone. you want people to notice you, like how people notice lightning piercing through clouds, a wildfire raging war against the horizon, a star shooting across a dark sky. you want people to pay attention to you, because you’re a masterpiece that deserves to be beheld.
people think that beauxbatons is a dainty place where students are taught to be polite, pretty, in an almost fragile way; but the truth is that the francophone world has always been furious and raging, roiling with revolutions and tenacity; and while ‘beauty’ may lie in the name of the school, so does the word ‘stick’.
beauxbatons is not a school that produces bonny porcelain students; it’s a school that makes paintings that have withstood the glare of time, bronze statues that have weathered fearsome storms – art that evokes a twanging of the soul with its dramatic heroics, art that forces an unnerving respect out of its viewers.
and you are one of these works of art. your brushwork is bold, almost splashing in defiance across the canvas; your colours bloom like the thousands of flowers in the beauxbatons meadow, wild and beautiful, hardy and immortal; and your canvas is spread wide, like an eagle’s wings, ready for the wind beneath its feathers, ready for the wild songs yet to be sung, ready to take over the world.
