Godlike Theoclymenus
Is it late? Yes. Do I work tomorrow? Also yes but still had this random inspiration to draw again from some piece of art from ancient literature and since I was on the whole Homeric Prophet fever from this poll and I just thought why not draw one of THE most underrated figures of the Odyssey, Theoclymenus?
(@roachcicle I hope you are proud of me)
So Ironically I was inspired by the famous Nekya depiction here and I thought why not?
I loved the hat so I wanted to keep it. Maybe it was some kind of disguise that Theoklymenos had to take in order to travel and run away after the murder he committed.
I also fixed a bit his body. I wanted it to look buff enough to show someone who could have done the deed but also I wanted him to look a bit skinnier from the days he had to run away so basically wanted to show a man that has seen better days.
I also kept earthly tones with his clothes because I wanted it to look like something he grasped in a haste to just cover himself from the elements but I still gave him a mycenean-inspired simple kilt with some clearer colors to indicate someone who fell from grace
The walking stick obviously someone who has walked a long distance
I made the brooch of bronze. Maybe Theoklymenos was planning to use that as exchange for his safe passage somewhere if Telemachus had rejected his plead
A soft beard covering his chin and lip (Theoklymenos could have been a bit closer to Telemachus's age or much older. I am not sure that his age was never hinted or specified. I think he would be older than Telemachus but not exactly his father's age either
The pose did remind me of someone bowing in relief and gratitude so yeah another reason I was inspired for it
My other Homeric prophet art:
Tiresias
