WOW; WOMAN OF WONDER: EVE NELSON

This is a WOW for sure because Eve is not only a girl’s girl, but she is a wonder at her artistry and a wise and beautiful human. This is also my opportunity to write a love letter to my friend on the “eve” of her 2x25 or 1/2 of 100 birthday, yes Fabulous 50! Eve and I were set up by a mutual associate for a professional lunch because her music was so dynamic that I needed to meet her, but even that very day…..I knew that the “professional” was going to be just the tip of this WOW. You know those people you meet and you feel like your safe and home….that is my Eve Eve has been a musical prodigy from the get-go, a star at her performing arts high school, again WOW-ing at Berkely school of music, plucked immediately into the New York Ad world, building a huge career in both ads and her gift of attracting talent, writing hit songs including Eva Cassidy’s “I Know You By Heart”…..Eve on fire. And then took what she calls “The Decade of Distraction”….but that’s another story….that we will someday discuss in other form. Eva as we sometime call her at home because she is as sweet and fiercely loyal as the Eva in Wall-E….she sort of laughs like her too with those smiling eyes. She is a family member, fitting into both my given and chosen family. She easily and effortlessly spends days or vacations with us cooking, laying by the pool, staying up late with the husband watching odd old movies, being a kid with the kids and taking in life…..see Eve appreciates what life offers. Sometimes she disappears on her neighborhood galavants and comes back with treats and stories of the people she has met because no one meets her without falling in love. Eve is a healer, she has these crazy hot hands that can draw the bad out of you, just ask my nervous tummy. While she was born a Russian Jew… She cooks like an Italian…..no one makes better clam linguini. Maybe because she “loves” the clams as she cleans them with those hands. Eve eats and knows sushi like she's Japanese….in fact I worry that she might glow someday. She has the musical soul of the best black musicians…..ask Chaka Kahn. She embraces all of who she is. She tells me I am Jewish somewhere and that makes us feel even more like family since she has brought many of the beautiful Jewish traditions and celebrations into our family…..my daughters friends hope for an invitation to these events because they are filled with history, singing and joy. Eve is insanely talented and I want to buy a piano just so she can play it when she is with us. She is my secret weapon for any musical gig or problem. A samurai, chameleon, writer and producer who never fails and is always ready…….even when it takes redo after redo, has the patience and calm of a turtle, but is zippy like a rabbit. I have watched in WOW wonder as she “negotiates” the toughest with her zen and open heart. She is the messiest of cooks, no one can get food on the ceiling like Eve. Eve loves the Twilight Zone, drinks like a sailor and is a spiritual yoda. She is one of my rocks in life and I have clung to her many times. Eve has been through the eye of many storms and in the middle of them and does not let them change her love and passion for people, our world and the possibility of change. Happy Birthday Eve, you touch so many with your shining light. love you xoxox ps……funny oooooh so funny
