Steve was on his way home when he saw them.
It was a nice enough afternoon, the sun peeking out behind a few small clouds, May finally turning the colder part of spring into something warm and beautiful. And it showed in the people, more of them out and about, smiling and laughing with each other, not really in a hurry to get anywhere.
He spotted Becca out of the corners of his eye first and did a double take. The start of a smile died on his lips though when he noted the expression on her face and the guy reaching for her wrist, keeping her from leaving.
“Hey -”
It was out before Steve even thought about it, and he came jogging over to them.
“Hey Becca.”
Foreseen Circumstances
@theotherbarnes and eventually @the-blackest-spider
Addressed to His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince James Buchanan of the Barnes House, on the fourteenth of November.
It is with great joy I send you this missive My Prince for I have discovered...
The brown haired prince sighed and set the letter down, he couldn’t focus on the report one of his sentries had sent him, he was too distracted by the news his mother had brought him earlier.
One of the neighboring kingdoms was in some turmoil, and had reached out for assistance, and the only thing they’d had to offer in return was in fact their kingdom, and their daughter. A daughter James was arranged to marry, a daughter he knew next to nothing about, except that she was around 14 years old. James knew that was normal, his own parents were almost ten years apart and had met when his mother was eleven, he knew that, they hadn’t gotten married until she was a little older. But still, it made him slightly uncomfortable, he was to turn 21 in the coming year, and it was just a bit concerning that she was only a couple years older than his own baby sister.
Needless to say, it was a bit strange to consider.
But it was his duty to his family and his country to go through with it, and he would. He was also honor bound to make sure his new betrothed was treated well.
It didn’t make it any less strange of course, but he did promise himself he would make sure she was comfortable.
He sighed again and pushed himself away from his desk and wandered out of the adjoining room into his bedchambers, maybe he could go out in the gardens for a bit to clear his head, but, then again the knock on his door would likely make that plan moot.
“Enter!” he called and in came Matilda, one of his sisters handmaidens, “Yes?” he asked but his lips twitched, he was pretty sure he already knew.
“I am terribly sorry to disturb you, my Prince, but...you haven’t seen your sister lately, have you?” she asked and this time he couldn’t hide his grin, his sister was a troublemaker, the best kind really, as she wasn’t so much as making trouble, just making things a little harder for some of the servants by simply being a child, though she was soon to be a young woman, too soon if anyone were to ask her older brother, however.
“I’m afraid I haven’t, Matilda, but if I run into her, I’ll be sure to inform her you are looking for her,” he replied, amused. It was well known Princess Rebecca came and hid in his rooms. She could very well already be there and he just hadn’t noticed he’d been too lost in his thoughts, he glanced briefly at the wall hangings and curtains to check for toes or the tips of shoes peeking out from underneath.
“Thank you, Your Highness, it is time for her midday lessons,” she said with a little put upon sigh, but then curtsied and quickly left again, after James once again promised to tell his sister about her search, closing the door behind her.
“Rascal, are you in here?” he called, not bothering to hide the amusement in his voice, he was sure she had to be somewhere near by, either here, or she had run off to find their mother. Either way, she would be a welcome distraction at this point.
Seeking Forgiveness
@theotherbarnes
Natasha Romanoff had become a ghost. No one knew where she was or what she had been doing in the last six months. For a while there were quote sightings, but then the fascination leveled out and faded away. Though that didn’t change the fact she was a wanted woman and there was no telling when or if that would ever change. She had made a choice and now she had to lie in the bed she made in light of it. She had wandered for a while, drifting from place to place, but she couldn’t settle and she wasn’t sure she could. It was a rule of thumb that when you were running you didn’t stay in one place too long and you didn’t make contacts. But despite her lone wolf mentality she craved something, needed human interaction of some sort and not to be idle. She had, needed to be doing something…
But what?
The Soldier… The American… James… he haunted her more now than ever. She blamed herself for everything, all of it and she needed to do something, seek absolution of some sort and perhaps then his ghost would fade and she would wipe away a little more red from her ledger. She wanted forgiveness from him, but there was no doing that. She had by way of Steve knowing how to contact her learned his fate. She didn’t fully agree with the decision, but she understood it. She only hoped that one day he could be free. He deserved it.
And then an idea came. Maybe something or someone even closer to James Barnes might jog him, free him from his mental chains. It was an idea. She remembered a woman who had been with SHIELD bearing the last name of Barnes. It roused the Widow into action, a chance to play detective was something, better than wandering aimless and lost without purpose.
Her work proved fruitful and she began to follow the woman in question, Rebecca Barnes, Becky. She had the same chin and eyes as her brother and more no doubt. But all in good time. While she shadowed the woman, Natasha also complied further intel on James Barnes so when she finally confronted Rebecca she had something for her.
The tailing and following when on for a couple of weeks. Natasha had the other woman’s route down perfectly, enough that she could make time for little personal things like a cup of coffee to enjoy while she sat and waited for Rebecca to appear as she usually did around this time of morning for her own drink.

3. Spending time with my family. I’m a very big family person and they all mean a lot to me.
4. Getting to write. Writing always makes me happy. Whenever I’m down or upset sometimes I’ll just start writing and it’ll make me feel better.
5. Sewing. Sewing and making things is my ultimate happy place honestly. I literally love sewing... well until I get mad cause things were done wrong/incorrectly.
