So now I want to know! Did you watch Avatar more than once? Is it a movie you are fond of? (Also, I just googled "goldfish memory" because of you ;)
I think I saw it twice in theaters - once normally and then again because obviously IMAX was necessary to properly appreciate the visuals (this may have involved a road trip over state lines because I refuse to watch things alone, but that’s a tangent). Mostly, I needed to watch it again because there is flying, and I have A Thing about flying scenes.
I think I then downloaded a Totally Legal .avi expressly so I could watch the flying scenes about twenty more times. I do something similar with Rescuers Down Under; I have seen the bit with Marahute at least five times more often than the full movie, and I have seen the full movie a LOT.
‘Fond’ might be overstating it, because I laugh a lot about how cliche the White Man Saves Everyone plot is, but I do quite like Avatar because it is pretty and has flying and Sigourney Weaver. Nothing that includes all three of those elements can manage to be entirely bad!
‘Goldfish memory’ may be in part an… inside joke? Weird reference that only makes sense to me? I saw Little Plastic Castles quoted somewhere back in college and latched onto this bit:
And they say ‘Goldfish have no memory’/I guess their lives are much like mine/And the little plastic castle/Is a surprise every time
