P.P.S. @thepalmtoptiger​  3 years later this is STILL one of my favourite fics! I don’t know if you remember, but I read this out loud to 3/4 of my fam when we were in St Paul visiting the kid who went to uni there. This past Christmas season we were there again + drove by this corner. It’s the one where I had to stop to sit on the stairs because I was laughing so hard I couldn’t read out loud any more.

Adding some mild angst to your aging post. Neil pretty much lets himself go grey without bothering to hide it. As soon as it gets hard to ignore he just goes fuck it and dyes his hair completely grey. Everyone else thinks he’s going through some kind of crisis. But he’s older than Nathan ever was and Nathan never lived to see himself go completely grey. It’s just another thing that sets him apart from his father and marks how far he’s come.

fuck. yeahevery year GETTING to the age Nathan was when he died Neil looked more and more like him, and the grey hair is such a fucking relief. He never thought he’d be old enough for gray hair, and even better now it’s taking him farther away from the man that once terrorized himAndrew calls him an idiot and says, in bits and pieces of words across a couple weeks, in gestures like tucking the blanket around Neil’s feet and making his favorite dinner-- he keeps reminding Neil that he was never his father. The grey hair makes it easier to believe Andrew (though by this point the bad days where Neil asks himself that question are few and far between)A tabloid runs pictures of grey-headed Neil chewing somebody out like “Neil Josten---More Cantankerous With Age?” and Kevin posts it on twitter like “you fools he’s always been like this don’t you recall”

There’s some parallel between Dean telling Beth that they’re a good team and Rio saying that they’re partners. I’m too tired to make it. Usually a couple saying they’re a team is great, but it feels like Dean thinks of himself as the star player and Beth as support at best and a benchwarmer at worst. A marriage is referred to as a partnership. And Rio saying that after Dean said he and Beth are a team seems like either a coincidence or a great parallel.

That analogy is spot on.

When Dean says they’re a team, it’s not using the universal understanding of what a team is, but what Dean himself thinks a team is. Dean’s definition of a team is he goes to work to bring home money, and Beth handles the kids and other mundane ‘woman’ jobs while not questioning him.

As for Rio, we’ve seen multiple occasions that when Beth talks to him, even if he doesn’t agree with what she’s saying, he still listens. He lets her say her piece before explaining why he agrees or disagrees.

Partnership implies equality, 50/50. Currently, monetarily it’s not equal (Rio’s taking 60%), but I expect him to discuss business decisions with her. If Beth went to him and told him the same ideas she tried to explain to Dean, he’d listen and probably agree with her. She’s got a good head on her shoulders, and Rio is smart enough to recognize and appreciate that.

Right now, Rio’s invested in the success of Boland Motors. If his white suburban boss bitch wants to put in childcare so she can sell to other suburban bitches, he’ll support her because her success is now equal to his.

And Rio knows Beth well enough to know she can do anything she sets her mind to, if she’s given the freedom to do so.

Less twink more dad that works out by jogging every morning and drinking fruity kale shakes not really the intense protein powder stuff. Maybe lifts some light weights. Great legs not too scrawny or muscular but with toned muscles. Still doesn't look like a mob boss but someone who takes his kids to soccer practice and aged really really well. Neil got his height from his mom, so his father is probably average height. He'd still be a dilf. Still daddy af.

So we’re going from HotDaddyTM to Dilf-next-door. I love both versions honestly. Like he could go to the supermarket and little kids would sometimes go to him and tug at his jeans and call him dad and then the mother would come all embarrassed and would blush looking at him and ask him if he has kids because she totally wants to match them up so she has some kind of hook on him and he’d go with the story of his divorce and the ex wife taking away his son and he hasn’t seen him in years and he would look so sad and the woman would just melt and invite him for dinner. what kind of sketchy character he is xD the adventures of Daddy!Nathan

It's even funnier when you realize that he knows she flirting with him and he's there alternating between "wtf" and "Andrew". He straight up shoots her down. Nicky is offended on her behalf. Neil: "What I thought girls weren't supposed to be handled with kiddie gloves." Dan is actually proud.
