The Power of Object(s) at MAD Brussels
I was invited for a private tour who guided us through Belgium design and his economics. Most of us know the classics like Maarten Van Severen or Charles Kaisin but what items are they well known for and which are the products they earn money with.
The objects were presented from three different angles.
I : The most Iconic object
€ : The most profitable object
# : The object that sold the most
This gave me an insight in design that I didn't have before or where you don't really think about cause you only see the beauty of the object.
They made me realize that design has to compromise more then art, they have to answer on social needs. They need to think about whether there prices need to be democratic or not. Luckily there are companies like Dark, Extremis, Bulo,... who help those creative minds survive in this economic world.
