Where Have I Been? - Regional Experience
Hello to all, you'll have to forgive me I am still new to this whole blogging deal.... A lot of people say it is for girls but I kinda enjoy it haha oh well..... Let's see, where did I leave off... I think it was about 2 weeks before regionals and I was still getting ready. Well, I do not remember the workouts from that long ago but I do remember the week before regionals, why? Because I didn't workout much and I think I was going through withdrawals.... Was about to say forget regionals and workout haha. Good thing I have Jason and Sarah (Programmer/mentor/coach) SN: if you are in the area (Clemson, SC) Check us out Tiger Town CrossFit. So that's that.... On to the good stuff, REGIONALS..... It was awesome met a ton of people, made some friends, worked out with some legit guys and had fun doing it all. So lets break this down by events and maybe you guys can give it a shot... Event 1 - 3 attempts (2 minutes per attempt) at a hang squat snatch. Was a blast; had an aggressive plan I stuck to it. My goal was to hit 275 hang, even though I've never snatched that off the ground. Silly me. Any who, 255 was my first attempt and I felt very comfortable with this weight and I hit it. 2nd attempt was supposed to be my current snatch PR (265) but hell, why not, I threw 275 on and hit that as well. I really didn't know what I wanted to do for a 3rd attempt so I looked in the stands for some advice from my Tiger Town folks. They all wanted me to go 290-295 and I went 300. I missed it. I should have listened... oh well. Event 2 - Max distance handstand walk in 3:00 Very comfortable with this one as well. Gymnastics is something that I've been interested in since I was younger. I wanted to make 2 lengths (240') and I just missed it by 20' for a total of 220'. Bummer. Still had fun. Event 3 - "Nasty Girls V.2" - 3 RFT: 50 pistols / 7 muscle ups / 10 hang power cleans (175#) I tried this workout once and just wanted to PR on it, and I did. 9:19 wasn't the fastest but left me in good standing heading into day 2. Give it a shot, guys! Event 4 - haha, oh Lord - 21-15-9-6-3 Strict HSPU / Front squats (195#) / OTB burpees Where should I begin... oh yeah, I SUCK at isolated movements (ie, strict anything). I'm used to using my hips/complete body for most of my movements (that's CrossFit, right?) I didn't think I was going to finish in the time cap, but I did with a time of 18:39. The width of our hands could only be 34", which was changed from last year's 36" - don't know if 2" would have made a difference because I still suck at strict movements but, just wanted to throw that in there. Event 5 - 10 RFT: 1 legless rope climb (15') / 1 200' sprint Yet again, going into this event I didn't know how I was going to perform considering the fact that our box JUST got ropes the week of Regionals, so I really couldn't practice on them like I wanted to. With that said, I was able to squeak out a time of 3:45, finishing 2nd overall in this event. Did you see Elijah Muhammad?? I couldn't; too fast. Event 6 - The 50's - 50 cal row/50 box jump overs/50 deadlifts (180#)/50 wall balls/50 ring dips/50 wall balls/50 deadlifts/50 box jump overs/50 cal row I tried my best to feel the fan of the rower, but, didn't get there. I got through 42 box jumps on the way back before capping out. My time was 22:12 after adding in penalty points. Event 7 - For time: 64 pull ups / 8 OHS (205#) My initial plan was to go 64 unbroken, full snatch 205, and crush those bad boys. BUT talking to the guys in the back and seeing most of the elite not going unbroken, I quickly changed my mind. I've also never done 64 unbroken pull ups before (the most I had done before this event was 50, I think). I did 54 unbroken, then 5 and 5 to save the biceps and lats a little bit for the overhead squats. I full snatched the weight up for my first rep, then 205 quickly became heavy, but I was able to go unbroken to finish in 2:07. I finished in 9th overall for the weekend, not too bad for my first regional appearance. I also got some pretty badass pictures with the winners (those are coming soon). All the times and scores are up - give these workouts a shot.
