It was Juneau’s 15th birthday and her adopted mother, Jenny, was treating her to cake at Aunt Mabel’s Cafe and Sweets. The cafe seemed a little slow, there were only a handful of customers seated under the awning, sipping their beverages and talking to one another. When Jenny translated Juneau’s order, and made a “birthday” request, the tender put a small white candle in the slice and escorted them to a good seat, where he struck a match and lit the candle.
The two enjoyed their orders, and took them a few minutes to eat. After that, they pushed their empty plates off to the side, they still had their drinks left to finish. Jenny started some conversation via sign language, where Juneau would comment on the topic as well.
