I think he would like to think there is a fair balance to the world, and he may even come off as thinking that, but he knows that the world is a screwed up place and not everything is fair. He understands that the real world is nothing like the comics he reads and that sometimes the bad guys do win in the end.
Yet he isn’t all despair and gloom, he does keep himself hopeful and tries to focus on more positive subjects. In the end he just wants to find some sort of happiness that’s his own.
