Sisterly Bonding

So this is my first ever published piece of fanfiction so im nervous as hell

features my beautiful Hera and her sister Juniper (belonging to @thequeerpeer) in our modern AU

“Is that my coffee cup? Why do you have my coffee cup?” Juniper asked.

Hera shrugged. “I wanted hot chocolate, all the other dishes were dirty, I didn’t have the energy to do them, so I chose the cleanest one.”

Juniper sighed, and clasped a hand on Hera’s shoulder. “You could have asked you know.”

“Well do you mind?”

“No but…” Juniper began.

“Then no harm done.”

Juniper sighed once more before taking a seat at the dining table and resting her head on its surface. “Do you think you could make me some coffee?”

Hera nodded and went to work preparing both her hot cocoa and June’s coffee. “Iced regular right?”

Juniper grunted from her head down position, and Hera assumed this was a confirmation. Hera busied herself heating up milk in their microwave and grabbing the pitcher of coffee from the fridge to pour Juniper a cup of coffee. June really needed to cut back on the caffeine, this was her 4th cup today. Though Hera shouldn’t be the one pointing fingers, considering she has had more than her weight in chocolate today.

Hera placed the cup filled with Juniper’s signature drink in front of her sister, and was greeted with another grunt, perhaps of thanks. With a beep from the microwave, Hera retrieved her now steaming cup of milk and poured in her packet of powdered chocolate and added extra marshmallows, as was customary, and stirred gently as she turned to face her sister drinking deeply from her mug.

“Are you okay June?” Hera asked, worry leaking into her voice.

Juniper finished downing her cup of coffee before responding. “Why do you ask?”

Hera leaned against the kitchen counter, taking a sip of her cocoa. “Well that’s your 4th cup of coffee today. And it’s only one in the afternoon.”

“I could ask you the same thing. Don’t think I haven’t noticed all the chocolate wrappers around the house.” Juniper side-eyed Hera.

Hera sighed and shook her head. “School has been...difficult.”

At that, Juniper seemed to hone in on Hera, clearly interested in hearing Hera out. “How so?”

“Well...I just have trouble with people, but of course you know that. And sometimes my anxiety just gets the best of me and I just want to run away. Dyslexia makes everything hard, and then anxiety makes me scared of everything, and I just wish everything was easier. I just wish...I wasn’t like this.”

Hera took a deep yet shaky breath, and wiped away the pinpricks of tears in her eyes. Juniper practically leaped up from her chair to envelop her sister in a hug.

“Oh Hera. I’m so sorry.”

Juniper plucked Hera’s mug away from her and placed it on the counter, so that Hera could return her hug, which Hera did readily. Juniper squeezed her sister tightly, rocking her back and forth, almost trying to shelter her from the world. Hera buried her face into Juniper’s shoulders, grateful for her sister.

After a few moments, Juniper loosened her grip and held Hera out at arms length. “Hera you are perfect the way you are. Just sometimes, other people don’t understand you the way you need to be understood. You are my sister and I will always love you, and I will always do my best to be there for you. I promise.” Juniper smiled.

Hera returned the smile with extra warmth. “You are the best sister, you know that right June?”

Juniper shook her head. “I don’t know about that, I think that title belongs to you.”

At that moment Hera remembered why this conversation had started. “Oh! You sneaky bitch. You changed the subject didn’t you.”

Juniper let go of Hera and stared at the floor, not answering.

“June! If you can worry about me then I can worry about you too ya know! I’m not a child anymore!”

Juniper remained quiet.

“Will you please tell me? I want to help you...” Hera pleaded.

Juniper sighed, allowing her shoulders to drop as well as her defenses. “I just don’t want you to think different of me. I want to be that perfect role model for you but…”

Hera cut her off. “June you’re my sister. I want to help you. But staying guarded like this isn’t healthy, and I will never think less of you. I just don’t want to see you suffer.”

Juniper continued to gaze at the ground before meeting Hera’s eyes with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I will keep that in mind. But I don’t feel ready to tell you yet.”

Hera shook her head and smiled as brightly as she could muster. “That’s fine too, but you just have to promise to tell me.” Hera held out her pinky to her sister.

Juniper linked pinkies with her sister and gave a shake. “I promise.”

“Good. Now to stop with all this sadness, how about we watch The Little Mermaid? I know it’s your favoriteeee.” Hera teased.

Juniper gave Hera a light shove and giggled. “You think we can finish it before Asra gets home?”

“Well we gotta try right? Otherwise he’ll start singing along to every. Single. Song.”

Juniper gave a full laugh this time. “I love that boy but he is certainly annoying sometimes.”

Hera pulled Juniper towards the living room, a slight bounce in her step, happy to have helped her sister. Even if it was just a small amount.

Hi pumpkin, I've sent in a few asks before about my favs tiana and jasmine (aka my daughters tbh) but like. Your comic has really helped me. I have depression and anxiety, self harm stuff, and an eating disorder and i am getting help for it, but i just wanted to let you know that your comic really helps. Yesterday was awful but just rereading these comics helped. I figured i should let you know and just say thank you, bc your comic really helps when my mental health is feeling awful ❤

I’m really sorry it took me this long to reply to your message. I read at first and it really made me so happy/humbled that I kind of just smiled for a long time and then reread it and then tried to think about how to best to respond and then life got in the way. So I am sorry for that. 

I’ve said this before but your message requires saying it again - when this comic can be of help, even more than just sole entertainment, then I really see it’s worth it and know why I want to continue creating. 

Again, I’m totally fine with people reading the comic in passing. That’s great and wonderful. But it really does give me a whole other level of understanding when I know it can be of help to people who are facing so much in their own lives. 

I’m really glad and proud you’re getting help for mental health. You really should commend yourself for that.

And I’m so, so glad this comic could be of any additional help. I’ve noticed your support throughout the years and I’m happy to return the favor in anyway. 💙

Jasmine, girl, you're the mom friend, we all know that and we love that. But you won't be able to take care of Ariel if you don't give yourself time to feel sad over the ball. I wanna just like be able to tell her its ok to be sad, it's ok to put your needs first. I love jasmine she's like my daughter and I am worried she'll run herself ragged 😞

Jasmine is so the mom friend without even having to say it or complain about it. Like she just is. 

And that’s a great worry of mine as well. How many more times is Jasmine going to shove her own feelings and frustrations and sadness in a bottle to help someone else? How much more? Ughhhhhhhh. 

also, love that she is like your daughter. that is beautiful.

Pumpkin the issue cleared my acne and cured my depression it was so pure and wholesome!!!!! Shang is so blushy awwww! And Tiana?! Omg my girl is just so sweet with her mom but she doesn't need to handle it all herself :( THIS ISSUE WAS SO GOOD
