“The entire story just feels like Kill Bill, you know?”
Yeah, I feel like it might be based on it.
And in return, Kill Bill was based on Xena.
It’s just having a woman as a warrior on a venge trip is a unique story and we don’t get it as often as we should because they’re too concerned with having women be the caretaker or the heroine and not a menace of epic proportion. Essentially they just see it as putting a woman in a what they consider to be a “man’s role” an insult or somehow controversial. But it’s just gender identity stereotype bullshit. Of course a women can be that fierce in battle. Be their own force of nature. I was worried that they would get that all wrong with Atsu in this new game and make her like a female version of Jin Sakai - but as you said - she is more like Beatrix Kiddo.
She’s an unrelenting and unstoppable force as a warrior.
So she should be because women feel pain and experience trauma and channel it into anger and vengeance far more often than the entertainment industry realizes. Women can be cruel and violent just as much as men can be, if not more because they’re faced with the stereotype of being sweet and harmless.
It’s not about making them like a man in representing them as a fierce warrior. It’s about acknowledging and understanding the depth of a woman. Where a woman’s determination, strength and resilience comes from is often that very thing. Being stereotyped as “a woman” and being so sick of it that they lash out against that and they show that they’re a force to be reckoned with.
That is what Xena is
That is what Kill Bill is
That is what Ghost Of Yotei is.
We need more stories and characters like them within female representation in art/entertainment because we are still dealing with debilitating stereotypes for women and constant inequality with this. A female character doesn’t necessarily have to be a villain but she needs to have much more moral complexity than the caretaker or the heroine because women are like that in real life.
They can kick your fucking ass and they will if provoked. If pushed that far over the threshold.
Non-binary character spotted in Spider-Man 2!!!
