Asia Sparks has BOTH so hold on to your seat belt! Philly's feisty female rapper Asia Sparks came to sit with me on #RULERRADIO to talk about her mixtape SPARK UP VOL.1. Needless to say the tape is CRACK and anybody who is anybody in real rap will agree. Sparkle Girls, a team Asia speaks of throughout her music as well as her last name. They represent strong hard working women who spark up the world through their talent and determination. Did I mention she has some sexy spark boys too? ;) Lol. Officially under the direction of the legendary Kevin Liles, Mic Mac, Frank Johnson and the Grassroots promotions for 6 months; Asia has made her mark very quickly in this industry. She has performed on 106 & Park, opened for Powerhouse in 2012 with countless radio spins across the east coast with singles like "Faja," "The Christening," and " No Chaser." She's received all the blessings and support from the biggest names in the game to keep her hustle going. When I interview artist who are on the up and coming, it's hard to get their personality as a person versus them as an artist. But Asia walked in my studio full of hugs, love and great vibes along with her team (Mama Sparks, Sister Sparks and the rest of her Sparked up family!) Often compared to Nicki Minaj; Sparks says that's an honor rather than a diss. "Nicki Minaj is big. She's doing it right now so when people tell me I'm like Nicki Minaj, im honored. My sound is nothing like hers but I guess because I'm a female rapper who happens to be cute and lightskin with a mean rap style, I get that. It's all love over here. That's a blessing " Asia says. Spark Vol 1. is hosted by one the best, Don Cannon and features 17 of the best songs you will ever hear pumping not only out of Philly, but many other states as well. I have tried to find the words to express this time we are all in and all that comes to mind is, this is BIGGER than race. Japanese, Chinese, West Indian, Canadian, German, Hispanic, Mexican, Caucasian, Christian, Catholic, AME, Muslim, from the Priest and Preacher to the oldest Prisoner - the color of their skin or place they go to pray didn't stop them from supporting Trayvon or praying for Trayvon's family. We can scream a white man killed a black boy all day long but the truth is an armed MAN, followed and killed an UNARMED 17 year old boy who no matter the assumptions before his death, did NOTHING but go to the store. No race is superior than the other but we as African American's must unite and PROVE that we are just as equal, respected and ROYAL like any other walk of life and feel like we are not in competition with anyone! If we have learned nothing about this case, it is there are more small minded, prejudice, racism life like people than there is justice in this world. Pray. Pray for peace. Pray for unity. Pray for justice. Pray for strength but more importantly, pray for the injustice. They need it most... He is not my son, he's my brother. God bless the family of Trayvon Martin. We love you.
