"The night sky is not lit up by one star, but by the billions of stars. Shine bright Black girls….Be bold. Be bright. Be blessed."
Just a few black girls/women who blew me away in 2013. I can’t wait to see what 2014 holds for them, for us, and for all Women of Color.

Powerful Collage. The inspiration.
I downloaded so many pictures, trying to find some that would justify the movie... but they are none, except this one. This is a screen shot from Lee Daniel's "The Butler" where Eugene Allen played by Forest Whitaker takes his wife played by Oprah Winfrey to a special ceremony at the white after serving 8 administrations there. Film also includes Terrence Howard, Yaya, Lenny Kravitz, Cuba Gooding Jr, Jane Fonda and more. Now, there have been many films that reflect on the past, showing what we as african-americans have went through during slavery until where we are now. But the difference between all of those films and this film is that, it shows how the silent is still heard. It shows how self-control and respect will prevail. Eugene was born in a time where we were still picking cotton and being told when to eat. His father ,played by David Banner showed him how to think ahead, keep a level head at all times. His mother, the beautiful Mariah Carey I mean was an african american of lighter skin. Where we were taught that the lighter african americans were treated better somewhat, early in the movie we are shown different, as she was raped by her master only to find her husband shot and killed for speaking up for his family. Lee Daniels the director takes you through a timeline of the tragedy of slavery, Eugene leaving home to find a better life the best way he can, the difficulties of the white house life as well as the election of Barack Obama.
What needs to be understood about the movie is that you do not have to do anything vicious, mean or ignorant to seek peace and justice. It will come. The butlers working in the white house helped the african americans bridge the gap because of them being so trustworthy to the president and their administration teams. They displayed diginity and integrity and gave those who had the power to change segrating rules reasons to believe in us and see that we are just like everyone else. The slaves bridge the gap, they gave us hope because they fought during slavery and had children who had children who were born to grow up in the late 1950's and early 1960's and create groups and organizations built around getting what is equally ours.
The issue with us now is that we want everything quick and we want things that aren't deserving to us. People like Rev Al Sharpton and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr fought decades for justice and their movements and still moving to this day. We are shown that it is a process but it is worth the time. How can we want to be treated equal now in this day in time when we are pulling ourselves down? We're not treating us as african americans equal so how can we want that out of our race. Our grandmothers and their grandmothers and fathers lost their lives and put them selves in danger so that we can live a better life and how are we repaying them? How are we carrying the legacy? It starts within. I may not know every civil right activist but I know that I will carry myself to the highest power and self-respect like the ones I do know. I know that I will not back for what I know I deserve. I know that I dont have to be loud to be heard. My actions speak for me and always will. I recommend that those who have not seen this film, please go and get motivate. Get understanding.. Get empowered.
I understand more now why having an african american president head of the white house and country means so much. I could not stand 10 mins in my ancestor's shoes and for that, I will forever do all I can while I can with a blessed spirit and heart. We have come such a long way. I appreciate those who died for us, from slaves to activist to military, I understand more now... I really do. Peace and Love...

Authentic Ish...
As I type; I realize that there aren't many events like this that our city (Baltimore) has but it is very much needed for us. 1914 affair is what I'm speaking of in case you've been covering your eyes to see the fly artwork for the event. Or maybe you've covered your ears to the beautiful sounds of Ms. Jaxxxxxon, one of the many talented people that performed at the event. As she ripped a new whole in music remaking Lauryn Hill's 'Lost One' 'Oh-La-La-La' and 'Ready or Not,' the jazzed up audience, rather supporters of the hit click 'Wvrdrobe' (pronounced Wardrobe) swayed left to right and sung along. A blast from the past with great live music reminded me of a nice night out on the town walking pass The House of Blues or running into The Roots cookout in Philly. Snapping pictures with a 1990's Polaroid camera of a beautiful tall queen dressed in an original Disney dress or the host of the evening with a rose' colored crushed velvet suite and bad boy medallion to match; 1914 was that. I was blessed with the opportunity to watch this masterpiece unfold but more importantly, to speak with the lady of the hour Zadia "Bougie Givenchy" to get a closer eye on the motive behind the movement. "The theme 1914 comes from our own history here in America. The first world war was in 1914, hence their name 'Wvrdrobe,' keyword WAR. We represent the war, we represent the change but in a positive way, an authentic way. Be the first movement to give the city constant upper echelon events and bring forth a vibe that will forever be respected and welcomed to the fly." There is no secret that creative minds are slim to none nowadays, but Wvrdrobe adds a nice amount of weight to that. When asked about any coming events, Zadia quickly says that they have many things in the works. "Some Ish the people are not ready for" she states. Well, just like the rest of the city; I too am eager to see more of what this team has to offer. I was able to snap some flicks of the evening. Click the link below to check them out. Once again, I truly feel we need these events in our city to showcase the authentic and I can't wait to be apart of the experience... Peace and Love. Asia Sparks has BOTH so hold on to your seat belt! Philly's feisty female rapper Asia Sparks came to sit with me on #RULERRADIO to talk about her mixtape SPARK UP VOL.1. Needless to say the tape is CRACK and anybody who is anybody in real rap will agree. Sparkle Girls, a team Asia speaks of throughout her music as well as her last name. They represent strong hard working women who spark up the world through their talent and determination. Did I mention she has some sexy spark boys too? ;) Lol. Officially under the direction of the legendary Kevin Liles, Mic Mac, Frank Johnson and the Grassroots promotions for 6 months; Asia has made her mark very quickly in this industry. She has performed on 106 & Park, opened for Powerhouse in 2012 with countless radio spins across the east coast with singles like "Faja," "The Christening," and " No Chaser." She's received all the blessings and support from the biggest names in the game to keep her hustle going. When I interview artist who are on the up and coming, it's hard to get their personality as a person versus them as an artist. But Asia walked in my studio full of hugs, love and great vibes along with her team (Mama Sparks, Sister Sparks and the rest of her Sparked up family!) Often compared to Nicki Minaj; Sparks says that's an honor rather than a diss. "Nicki Minaj is big. She's doing it right now so when people tell me I'm like Nicki Minaj, im honored. My sound is nothing like hers but I guess because I'm a female rapper who happens to be cute and lightskin with a mean rap style, I get that. It's all love over here. That's a blessing " Asia says. Spark Vol 1. is hosted by one the best, Don Cannon and features 17 of the best songs you will ever hear pumping not only out of Philly, but many other states as well. Asia Sparks has the machine standing behind, infront and in her heart to reach the top. Can wait to sit back down with her and her family, we had a great time. Godbless you Asia! Spark UP!

I'm not gonna write nothing long. 17 year old boy from Baltimore MD by the name King Tut Tye. Boy is C R A C K! If you know him, let him know I'm looking for him with a flash light. Lol. Enjoy y'all!
Ohio's Superman Charles Ramsey is reportedly BROKE! The hero who saved 3 young ladies who had been kidnapped 10 years ago in Ohio was found this year by Charles. He was rewarded $15,000 for the discovery and now he's saying the money gone. Ramsey purchased a vehicle with the money right before he lost his job due to fans and media popping up there wanting to speak with him. He has been borrowing money from family and friends to get by and now he regrets not taking the remainder of the money that he was offered. Remember McDonalds said they would give Charles Ramsey a lifetime supply of food because he was eating one of their items during his discovery of saving the girls? Well, they took it back! No burgers, no mula, no nada! Now, UNLIKE George Zimmerman's crazy little website he created to raise funds, if Charles Ramsey chooses to do the same, I'm sure he will get help from everyone for his great deed. #RULERRADIO #POWER1047BABY
UGH! and if I didn't love the song enough, this just made me love it more! You must dig deeper than visual with this video. I got this song coming up in 10mins only on POWER1047.COM baby!
I have tried to find the words to express this time we are all in and all that comes to mind is, this is BIGGER than race. Japanese, Chinese, West Indian, Canadian, German, Hispanic, Mexican, Caucasian, Christian, Catholic, AME, Muslim, from the Priest and Preacher to the oldest Prisoner - the color of their skin or place they go to pray didn't stop them from supporting Trayvon or praying for Trayvon's family. We can scream a white man killed a black boy all day long but the truth is an armed MAN, followed and killed an UNARMED 17 year old boy who no matter the assumptions before his death, did NOTHING but go to the store. No race is superior than the other but we as African American's must unite and PROVE that we are just as equal, respected and ROYAL like any other walk of life and feel like we are not in competition with anyone! If we have learned nothing about this case, it is there are more small minded, prejudice, racism life like people than there is justice in this world. Pray. Pray for peace. Pray for unity. Pray for justice. Pray for strength but more importantly, pray for the injustice. They need it most... He is not my son, he's my brother. God bless the family of Trayvon Martin. We love you.
Prayers go out to singer and tv personality Tameka "Tiny" Harris as her and her family mourn the death of her father, Charles Popes. He died in his Atlanta Georgia home this past week. Mr. Popes was apart of the R&B group "The Tams." We all have watched Tiny publicly love, care, adore yet worry about her father as he battled Alzheimer's disease. On VH1's "T.I and Tiny," she constantly spent time with her father. In fact, during an episode, Tiny visited her father in hopes of finding out some goals he couldn't fulfill because of his disease while creating her bucket list. Sort of like a "Living through me" idea. She went social about her father'a passing saying that her father was her favorite person and she is heart broken but she thank the fans for all the prayers and support. As a fan of the show and being very close to my father, I could only imagine the pain she's feeling but we love you Tiny and may God be with you in all you do babygirl...
