Alright friends, let’s talk about #TheRealTeal Did you know that September is Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month? Gynecological Cancers include: •Cervical Cancer •Ovarian Cancer •Uterine Cancer •Vaginal Cancer •Vulvar Cancer PAP Smears (annually or every 3 years per guidelines) are a great way of catching cervical cancer early, but don’t screen for ovarian/uterine cancer. Even getting the Gardasil shot helps prevent cervical cancer! 🤯 Ovarian and Uterine cancers are much harder to detect until in the later stages of diagnosis. There isn’t event guaranteed screening method. Because of my #brca1 mutation and a documented history of complex ovarian cysts, I have to have blood work and ultrasounds done a minimum of once a year. Make sure to schedule your annual exam with your OBGYN and talk to them about any changes/symptoms you’re experiencing or family history of any of these cancers. This month is often overshadowed by the impending #pinkwashing of October with Breast Cancer Awareness. That’s why I’m helping @the_breasties create a tsunami of teal on Instagram this month. I’m asking all of you to wear the color teal at some point this month, and tag me! I want to share every person wearing teal to show our #breasties that they are not alone 💙💚 (at Orlando, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTR6oqEFeyQ/?utm_medium=tumblr
