The Red Circle
A long short story. This week my entry is just a series of musings about the story. Fav quote “What, indeed? It is art for art’s sake, Watson. I suppose when you doctored you found yourself studying cases without thought of a fee? “For my education, Holmes." “Education never ends, Watson. It is a series of lessons with the greatest for the last. What a fabulous quote! Again as I read canon i think about ACD and his views on women. I am sure this has been the subject of a few papers and a dissertation or two. The pertinacity and the cunning of her sex" in the words of Mycroft at the end of SIB, is it loathing or a salute? Are we seeing a lack of respect or is he acknowleding that women have a way of getting what we want in a way that men can't understand. And given the right mood and distance, that men secretly appreciate? Cunning has two meanings: crafty or sly or one with skill and dexterity. Sherlockian morality...the bad guy gets his justice. No need for a trial at the Old Bailey. I guess then it would be called Law and Order: Baker Street? Are we seeing a early attack on the mafia or organized crime? Sometimes I forget that these stories contain violent images. That takes me by surprise sometimes. Even in the Granada series and certainly in Sherlock we don't see blood. We see the aftermath.
