2013 vs 2021! 2013 was the time I did #TheRightApproach (TRA) lost 30lbs but after a year gained it back and more! In 2019, I embarked on my #IntermittentFasting journey! From 320lbs, am now down to 180lbs and from a waistline of 62inches am down to 36inches! Am doing 18:6 fasting mode and run 9kms 5x a week during my fasted state! The fat that I got rid of! This photo was in 2017. Losing weight was a constant battle! In 2012, I became a poster boy of #TheRightApproach or TRA having lost 65lbs but gained back them back and more in 2018! I was at my heaviest at 320lbs in June 2018 when I got introduced to Herbalife. In five months, I lost 40lbs but plateaud for two months. In the 4th week of January 2019, I decided to try #IntermittentFasting doing the 16:8 model. I was weighing 280lbs. For three months, the weight loss was inspiring peaking at 40lbs lost. Then the dreaded plateau happened in June. That’s when I decided to do my early morning brisk walking. Everyday was a struggle to get out of bed but the physical changes brought by IF and exercising was encouraging so now I look forward to my daily exercise! In October, I learned to run properly again! Today I am still heavy at 210lbs. I hope to hit 200lbs by year end. And yes, my 62-inch waistline is down to 38 inches! Still a long way to go but I am going to gloat about this — the results of commitment to a healthy me is priceless! To those who have seen my weight loss journey, I have one advice: Losing weight doesn’t work like magic. Remember that it took you years to gain the excess pounds. Find your College (with TRA)!

Dear High School Juniors and Seniors,

College can be a wonderful experience.  College can instill thought-provoking concepts, spark innovative ideas, create friendships that last a lifetime, and, effectively, provide a sure-footed spring-board into adulthood. Finding a college providing such a template, however, is harder to do. To find such college, an honest introspective approach is often the best path. College is your experience. College is your life, and the first real taste away from parents. As such, look yourself in the mirror, think about what you love, and follow your passions.    

Along the way, you will encounter a litany of opinions. Parents, extended family members, counselors, friends, friends of friends, and the media will all offer their own take on what colleges to consider. Such array of opinions, as good as they may be, should not hinder you from truly following your heart. All these opinions can help you get a better idea about college, but, ultimately, the decision should be yours. After all, if college is an introduction to adulthood, then the college application process is the research for adulthood – your adulthood!

Back to School Health and Wellness Fair

Where? 1206 W. Hillsdale Blvd. Suite D. San Mateo, CA 94401

When? August 31, 2015 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. 

This summer, The Right Approach to Education, Inc. is hosting our first ever Health and Wellness Fair. At our Health and Wellness Fair you will be able to experience Low Level Light Therapy, Seed Acupuncture, massages, art sessions and much more. Join us for light snacks, alternative teaching demos, and more information on the various health and wellness services located here on the peninsula. There is a $5 entrance fee per family. Services within the Health and Wellness Fair range from $5-$35 per vendor. 35% of the proceeds goes towards subsidizing tutoring for under served youth in our community.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all of the high school students graduating this week! Whatever your next step is, do it with pride and do it well. You’ve closed one chapter and are officially on to the next one. Seek those opportunities and seize what is at your disposal! For many high school may have not taught what we feel is essential for us to be adults (how to do taxes, what ever are taxes, how do I finance a car?). It is now up to you to seek those answers. It is going to be frustrating and hopefully as you continue to get your education you won’t have to worry too much about it now. But I urge all of you to attend seminars, use the internet, and walk into a bank and demand for that information (credit unions are better at explaining it). No one is here to take away the experiences you’ve had so far, they are very real world experience. But as you step foot into the bigger real world, never stop seeking what they don’t teach you in the curriculum. Don’t let adults take advantage of your labor or your input. Always remember, one day you will be apart of running this country. One day you WILL be represented. Continue to support and uplift each other. Always remember you were once a youth whose world experiences and views were scarce. Remember that and relay the message back to the thousands of youths being brought up after you. It’s very hard to be taken seriously when you just get out of high school, but you’ve got to stand your ground. You are important. Your thoughts are important. Your input in important. You are a future leader. So remember what you don’t know now, seek that knowledge, and help to bring it to the disposal of others. Congratulations. I hope you all enjoy the wonders that are college and the wonders that are...”the real world”!

My Most Memorable Mentor (teacher)

Now that we’re past that absolutely awesome alliteration (oh whoop look I did it again)...

I (admin assistant) do not really have a specific teacher that comes to mind when I think Teacher Appreciation Week. However, one teacher that was momentarily encouraging and deepened my love of English and understanding of life was my junior/senior English teacher. In his class I learned the following strategy when writing essays (which I absolutely love):

figure out your thesis

gather and bullet point all the evidence, whether that be quotes from a book or statistics to support your stance on a topic (25+)

figure out your topic sentences for each paragraph RELATE IT TO THE THESIS

distribute your evidence to paragraphs accordingly (chop down your list of evidence)

add the context to all of your chosen evidence

now you can start to develop why your evidence supports or proves your thesis

Always ALWAYS relate it back to the thesis

And most importantly,

Your rough draft is supposed to be terrible. That is what editing is for! Do not sit and stress yourself out about making it perfect right off the bat. Essays take time. Work on one paragraph at a time. And the more and more your practice that strategy when developing your essays, the easier it will be to write and in class essay.
