Vampires do not need to sleep as their daily death sleep does more than enough to help rejuvenate a body. However, there was a comfort in being able to choose to rest and wake from dreams or nightmares much like one did when still mortal. It was better appreciated when you had a companion to lazily lay with you as the hours rocked by. Even so, Marius was never able to prepare for the fact that sometimes Mael would talk in his sleep or the various things he mumbled.
It ranged from mutterings in a language long forgotten, to broken and occasionally mispronounced Latin, or modern English with splatterings of other tongue in between. Marius found a slight bit of amusement in these unintentional admissions as he found the Gaul had a lot he didn’t say in their time together. There were snippets of songs he wouldn’t sing aloud from musicians that Marius never knew he was aware of or cared for. Sometimes there were notes to bits and pieces of movies and books that he has consumed and unexpectedly thought critically of the material. Of course, there were moments where he spoke of the Roman, fueled with that infamous passion of his, with either words of aggravated irritation or confused adoration. The occasional graphic desire always caught Marius off guard. However, it were the rarest and quietest words that contained the most interesting topics. It was those times he uttered in broken bits and pieces of conversations long past: to Avicus, to his people, to a life that he may never reveal to anyone as long as they all exist. The historian in Marius wanted nothing more to learn some of the dead culture, much like his first attempt when they met in that taven years ago. The lover, well…he was well aware just how stubborn Mael could be in speaking of anything it seems. Actions were far louder than words with the idiot. Each time, however, Marius gets a little more tempted to mention these little moments to Mael, to reveal just how much he’s learned of his companion and encourage him to say more. Though knowing the Gaul, he’d simply find something to be offended about the situation.
Ah, better to keep this entertaining little fact to himself than lose it to some silly embarrassment, Marius thought to himself as he heard the soft lyrics from a new song uttered. He bit back a soft chuckle so as to not wake his companion before drifting off.

Totally singing Ellie Goulding because I wanted to laugh over it.
I am so out of practice with watercolors but it was a nice change of pace. I’M MOVED IN. Stuff under readmore because I’m sure not everyone wants all my nonsense covering their dash.
Actual moral of the story –> Marius: This companion never speaks his mind except to aggravate me most times/ Me: Sweet meteors, pot, what color is the kettle again??
Tell me to go to sleep.
