So I was texting Gryf yesterday, and the subject of 'holy shit we really need to meet up' came up, and he offered Bronycon 2013 as a convenient solution to this. I had previously not considered it whatsoever, but I've done a bit of looking, and I'm now thinking I may be able to pull this off.
My parents are going to be out here for my graduation, and I plan on spending basically the entire summer with them in various configurations - the original plan was to have them both out here, spend some time here in CA, then go back with one or the other to either Iowa or Virginia, and upon returning to Cali, pack up my shit and move into whatever college I end up going to.
Now, Bronycon is in Balitmore this year, and upon checking Google Maps, it's apparently 3 hours from where my mom lives. I probably wouldn't need to pay for a flight, I could just ask her to go on a little road trip with me, and drop me off at the con. In that case, I'd probably end up taking my flight back to CA out of Baltimore, since the con's at the beginning of August and I'll need a reasonable amount of time to get myself situated at college.
Search offered to let me share his hotel room if I did pull this off (though I'm not sure how that'd work with Legion and Gryfinz around, but it's an offer nonetheless). This would essentially leave me to pay for the pass to the con, which I can easily manage, and then I'd likely have to pay for some of the gas to get to Baltimore from where my mom lives, and then have some spending money for the con, for food and pony swag and the like. This would probably come from birthday money, provided I don't blow it all between April and August.
I'd also still need to worry about the logistics of moving from here to college if I do spend so much time away over the summer - would I pack everything beforehand, or when I got back? Would I still be able to make deadlines if I go for campus housing? Would it be practical to come back for my things if I end up going to college back East?
There are a lot of questions to this... But there's a lot I'd have to gain out of going to Bronycon...
At least I know all of this now. Maybe I can work out a plan of attack for this summer that leaves everyone happy.
