Extra, Extra!
Read all about NOLA’s newest resident; they are calling her: ELEANOR SCHUYLER – and everyone is saying she looks an awful lot like Candice Accola-King. Here is more of what you will need to know about her;
Twenty-four (24) years old.
Eleanor is the manager of The Slice, a bakery located in Mid-City.
Lives in the Mid-City suburb of NOLA.
Eleanor is an a r i e s -- the ram; whom are creative, adaptive, and insightful. They can also be strong-willed and spontaneous (sometimes to a fault). Aries people can be driven and are very ambitious often making them over-achievers in anything they set their mind to tackle. Aries are fire signs, and so too is their personality. They may be quick to anger, but don't take it personally, it's just their fiery, passionate personalities showing through. Aries signs have excellent sense of humor, and they get along with almost everyone at the party (and they DO know how to party). Aries can be impatient, but we love them anyway because they are devoted friends, lovers and family members - they are loyal to then end and will fight for their causes (usually supporting the underdog).
“What brings you to this part of the south, darlin’?” -“I was born and raised in NOLA, and never decided to leave. After my father was murdered, I knew that I had to stay in the city to solve the unsolvable murder. Though, I have lived in different areas of the city, I finally settled in Mid-City after hitting another brick wall in my journalism career. After not being able to get a before the fold article in the paper, I landed the job at The Slice being able to pay the bills as I continued to write in my free time.”
What She Doesn’t Want You To Know Is...
Eleanor’s father was murdered in cold blood when she was sixteen. The young girl idolized her father, and was really shaken to the core when she found her the dealings in which he was involved in. The murder was committed by one of the most notorious suppliers in the city, someone that seemed to be untouchable, no one even knew his name. Whispers of the same suppliers occurred at the newspaper that Eleanor worked at, and she jumped on the story. She was sent undercover to The Slice, but she never expected it to go so far. Now, she’s hoping to keep it a secret her true motives of working for Merritt.
Extra, Extra!
Read all about NOLA’s newest resident; they are calling her: MERRITT LARSEN -- and everyone is saying she looks an awful lot like Kylie Rae. Here is more of what you will need to know about her;
Twenty-seven (27) years old.
Merritt is the owner of The Slice; a bakery located in the heart of Mid-City.
Lives in the Mid-City suburb of NOLA.
Merritt is an a q u a r i u s -- the water bearer; often simple and unassuming, the Aquarian goes about accomplishing goals in a quiet, often unorthodox ways. Although their methods may be unorthodox, the results for achievement are surprisingly effective. Aquarian's will take up any cause, and are humanitarians of the zodiac. They are honest, loyal and highly intelligent. They are also easy going and make natural friendships. If not kept in check, the Aquarian can be prone to sloth and laziness. However, they know this about themselves, and try their best to motivate themselves to action. They are also prone to philosophical thoughts, and are often quite artistic and poetic.
“What brings you to this part of the south, darlin’?” -"Well I ain’t really known nothin’ else but the south there, “darlin” -laughs; I was born and raised in here in N’orleans and I would intent to keep it that way. I’m not like the rest of these good ‘ole folk though, as my shop would suggest otherwise. I want to grow here with New Orleans, especially with Bourbon Street - I love meeting all these new people every day, you never see the same person twice the same day. So, I’m just truckin’ along with my little one, her names’ Ava, and she’s smarter than I’ll ever be - an she’s only 4, can you believe that! She’s got some artsy in her like her Mama, but I won’t bore you will all of that. I’m just here, tryin’ to life my life like I have been.”
But What She Doesn’t Want You To Know Is...
Merritt is a recovering heroin addict, but that’s not a very well-kept secret. The secret stemming from what is that she holds herself completely responsible for the death of her younger brother, whom she basically raised herself. The two regularly used heroin via IV, and upon taking the same hit one day, only one of them managed to wake up. Merritt still struggles to this day with the death of her brother, but tries to make up for it in making sure that her young daughter knows all about her late uncle, and taking her to picnics at his gravesite on a weekly basis.
The Slice Salutes the Residents Who Opened Their Doors to Others in the Nature’s Bounty That Chennai Couldn’t Hold

December 2, 2015
When the media was step-motherly to Assam that was flooded earlier this year, we thought it was the way things are. But today, Chennai is literally under water and the local media is providing information on the gravity of the situation. Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that it’s the worst rainfall in a century. According to media reports, Chennai itself has received an excess of 50% over its normal rainfall. That’s 150% total rainfall. (Weatherman S.R. Ramanan said during a recent media interview that normal rainfall for Chennai from October 1 to December 31 during the North-East Monsoon is 44 cm.) More than the amount of rainfall, the compounding factor is the water filling literally every prominent locality in the city. The ground floor in many buildings are totally submerged in the affected areas. Strange as it may seem, some roads have caved in (as wide as 6 ft), leaving gaping holes in their wake. Three major roads have been closed for traffic – The Grand Southern Trunk Road (NH 45 going towards Trichy), East Coast Road, and Old Mahabalipuram Road. Southern Railways has cancelled all trains headed south (of Tamil Nadu) as the tracks are flooded. Lakes are overflowing, submerging low-lying areas in their banks. The worst affected is those residing close to the Adyar River as Chembarampakkam Lake is letting out 29,000 cusecs of water. The Domestic and International terminals of the Chennai Airport have been closed for traffic as runways are flooded. Buses are forced off the roads, as the Metropolitan Transport Corporation is unable to find a way out of water. Only lean services are being operated. The bus terminus in Koyambedu is completely under water, leading to hardships for smooth flow of traffic and many are stranded.
Many citizens have taken to social media announcing their homes are open to anyone needing help. We salute every one of them for their gesture. Our hearts are with those undergoing untold misery. It’s those on the edge of lives who suffer the most. But even the endowed have not been spared. Electrocution has taken many lives, as the unsuspecting walker or rider stepped on live wire under water.
Even good humour fails as it is beyond that. It’s not the usual rain hardship. It is the question of livelihood and loss. But our fervent hope is that the weather prediction fails this time. Chennai is no way ready to take more. I am the resident of Chennai affected in a way but not to the extent as the poor man who has lost everything and is on the street.
This collection of pictures by The Hindu’s photographers will tell you the grim situation.
