Every person’s life is a story yet to be told and I’m gonna tell you mine, well….at least a part of it. So here it is “My Love Story”.
It was noon and everyone was busy doing what they normally do on lunch breaks, this was when every classroom came to life with the ceaseless chattering and occasional screams. Truthfully I didn’t like to be a part of all this, so I spent my time on the school verandah, watching the birds and trees and slowly slipping into my little world. But that day was different, even with all this commotion, I couldn’t help but notice a pair of eyes fixed on me. At first I thought she was staring at something else (which in my experience was always the case) but this time I was wrong. She had beautiful eyes and a cheeky smile, which kind of caught my interest, so I looked back at her. Nothing was said during those few minutes, the only thing we did was exchange glances and smiles. The bell rang. Our little staring competition came to a halt as we withdrew back to our classes, but little did I know that this was not the end.
From then on I saw her more frequently, like she was popping up from thin air, soon my level of curiosity reached its peak and decided to find out about this mystery girl of mine. So from certain people ‘whom I shall not name’ I came to know that her name was ‘Riya’ and crossed off ‘know her name’ from my list. Now for the next step, I went and sat on the verandah and as expected she was there across on the other end. At first I hesitated a bit but after telling myself to calm down, I shouted out her name “Riyaaa…..!!”, she heard it and started walking towards me. My heart sped; my excitement on the whole matter was reaching a stage where my body could no longer contain it. She stood before me, my mind kept screaming “oh my god!!...she’s going to talk!!...she’s going to talk!!” she said “my name is Priya, okay”. Every pumped up scenarios my mind was weaving until then, all crashed and burned pitifully(damn you..!! certain people!!). I honestly felt like an idiot and a sheepish grin dominated my face.
I guess it was for the best cause we ended up talking and it wasn’t long before we got close. We talked endlessly at every chance we got, well…she did most of the talking, mostly of her mom, dad, her endless list of pets and the occasional joke of the day, which kind of seems boring… but truth be told, I didn’t mind.
It went on like this for months and then out of the blue she began mentioning love in our conversations. You girls will never say it first….huh? You leave a trail of bread crumbs and expect us guys to pick it up. So yeah, I understood her loud and clear and it didn’t take long before I popped the question (nothing cliché, okay!). Like always I met up with her on the school verandah, we sat face to face; I didn’t say anything and just kept looking at her. I could see from the look on her face that she was getting annoyed, yet I continued.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” she said in an overly irritated tone.
(So maybe a little bit cliché…)
She froze for a moment, but seconds later that cheeky smile of her’s lit her face.
Now like in fairy tales I could say everything went on beautifully well and we lived happily ever after, but that’s not how life works. We had our share of fights and drama, which sometimes got out of hand.
Hmm… but what to do, I love her…….
