Normally sweets weren’t something he particularly craved, instead preferring things more cooked hot and savory, but the smell of something fresh and warm that wafted out from within a bakery on the Star Trail had Jacket shuffling in, flinching at the loud ring of a bell at the door that announced his presence.
The little old woman standing behind the counter just gave him a warning look that he didn’t understand, and he stared back, offering nothing more than a small shrug back at her before turning to look at the boxes of pies, cakes, and pastries that lined the shelves. He wasn’t the kind of person to rob people, if that was what she was worried about.
Staring at the shelves didn’t dissolve whatever tension he held being in the small space. To anyone else it might’ve been cozy; to him it was cramped, feeling far too much like a bull in a china shop than a customer.
It didn’t seem like he was alone in here either. He heard boxes being shifted around behind one of the shelves, out of sight from both him and the woman at the counter. Slowly, he leaned behind the wooden frames of the shelving only to find...
Ah.
That kid from the arena. Eating straight out of the boxes, it seemed. They weren’t exactly stealthy about it either, but they seemed to be having fun digging with their hands into... What, was that a cake or something?
He scuffed his shoe on the tiles in an effort of making a noise to grab their attention. You’ve been found out.
