It was just another normal day in Hive City for our hard-boiled detective Shotaro Hidari. He was wandering around the streets in each district as he usually does as he tried to get a feel for each nook and cranny, street and alley way that this city had at its disposal. No matter how many times he had been through Sector 01, he always seemed to get lost. Damn that sector and the moving building, but Shotaro would get it all figured out one of these days. He just needed to get the patter down in his head or even on paper if it would be better to do so. After spending an hour looking for the coffee shop, again, he finally found it and ordered his usual coffee. It was nothing special, just a normal cup of coffee with a little creamer and minimum sugar. After walking around a bit more and finishing his coffee, he grabbed a snack at a nearby convenience store and started making his way back home. He got a little sidetracked and started talking to a few people he had met while he’s been here. He finally heads out and remembers he bought himself a snack. He pulls it out of his vest pocket and opens it up. As he’s about to take his first bite someone runs into him, forcing him to drop his snack and knocking him on his ass. The boy got up and continued running without so much as an apology.

“Hey. Hey!”

The boy was already off. Just as Shotaro stood up and began brushing himself off, he was knocked over again by three more guys. Well, “guys” wasn’t the word for them. “Monsters” was a better word to describe what they looked like. Shotaro put two and two together and realized that that’s what the boy must’ve been running from. He sprang into action and cut the monsters off at an intersection and hit one with a whopping forward kick. He may not have been transformed, but he was still a competent fighter without the help of his Memories. He blocked a punch from one of them and turned to the kid who had stopped running to see where his pursuers had gone.

“Are you alright?”

Shotaro thought now would be a perfect time to finish this up. He pushed the monster back with his arm and followed it up with a standing roundhouse kick. He was his chance. He pulled out his driver and stuck it to his waist. He pulled his Joker GaiaMemory and pressed the activation button. The Memory exclaimed “JOKER!” He put it into his driver and got into his ready stance.

“Henshin.”

“Now, count up your sins!”

It has been quite a while since Shotaro had been in action. He was experiencing a disturbingly long time of peace where he didn’t need to fight at all. He would even just pull out his Lost Driver and longingly look at it sometimes. He had almost accepted the fact that he may never transform again for as long as he stayed in this city. From his point of view, it was just too peaceful of a place. No monster attacks or anything.

Ahh! It’s times like these where a hard-boiled man like me must accept the harsh reality with no remorse, but gaaaahhh it’s so boring here.

Shotaro decided it might be exciting if he left Epsilon for bit, grab a coffee, or get some food. Shotaro had no idea how good his intuition was, because what would transpire would be a nice change of pace. He grabbed a snazzy fedora and headed out of Epsilon and headed for the nearest café. After grabbing his coffee to go and leaving the café, he heard the screams of some people a block or two away.

I guess the coffee will have to wait.

He rushed to where the noise was, throwing his coffee in the trash on the way. When he got to the scene he noticed a blue-haired teen sporting a black long sleeved shirt and, pink pants, and a pair of strangely designed headphones terrorizing a group of civilians. There was no time to be discreet. He pulled out the Lost Drive and transformed.

“I am Kamen Rider… Joker. Now, count up your sins!”

He flicked his wrist and sped towards the suspect. He blocked an incoming blow and countered with a hard punch.  It had been a while since he’s seen some action in the field so this was a bit exciting.

Shotaro had gotten a tip from someone that he should keep an eye on a guy by the name of Kisaragi Gentarou. The informant said that Kisaragi was suspicious and probably up to no good. Shotaro took the request and set out to look for this guy with nothing but a name and a face. He hadn’t met a Dopant in Hive City, nor did he have to transform since he got here, but he felt that this would be the one time where it might be necessary.

He followed Kisaragi around for weeks, watching everything he did, every move he made. He even went to the public bathrooms when Kisaragi did. Even then, he didn’t do anything suspicious, not once. The only time he had the chance was when he would go back to his apartment, the only place Shotaro couldn’t follow him. Weeks turned into months and Shotaro began to grow weary of the fact that nothing had happened, that nothing had been discovered. Either Shotaro had received a bad tip, or this guy was good. Watching his actions, he seemed friendly towards most people, a little too friendly.

Did he know he was being followed this whole time? Was he being careful whenever I was around?

Shotaro had no idea how to confirm this, so he just kept watching. Another week went by and Shotaro was really fed up with this. Kisaragi didn’t do anything that would tip Shotaro off, aside from the occasional yelling about space while looking at the sky. There wasn’t much rhyme or reason behind it, but it was weird. Shotaro began to give when a thought crossed his mind. He waited until Kisaragi wasn’t entirely in a public place. He ran up and pinned him against the wall and held Kisaragi by the collar.

“Ahhh! I heard you were into some shady stuff Kisaragi! What are you hiding?!”

Suigetsu was sitting in his apartment watching Power Squad when he thought about his “friend” Gentarou. He thought about how Gentarou was some kind of hero that transformed like in those sentai shows, or whatever they were called. He called himself a common something or other, and used his belt to change suits. It was pretty nifty, like something you’d see in a show. If one was here in the city, Suigetsu wondered if there were more in this city and how many there were exactly. Did they all have the same kind of belt? Or did they all sport different unique ones? One of his buds pointed him to a guy who could probably help him get the information he needed. This man was about the same age as Suigetsu. He seemed to always sport a long sleeved button-up shirt, a tie, a vest jacket, and a fedora. It was a weird choice of fashion for someone his age, but to each their own. He had a weird habit of taking off his hat an dusting it on his pants and then putting it back on his head. The detective always tried to act tough but Suigetsu could see right through his act using just by looking at him with his eyes. His “headquarters” wasn’t the cream of the crop either. District Epsilon wasn’t much of an eye catcher when it came to reeling in customers with requests, but it wasn’t like he was getting paid yet. He must’ve had some sick sense of duty to help people for free. Suigetsu would’ve tried to make a killing (both figuratively and possibly literally) from helping people with their requests. Suigetsu walked into his “office” (it was more of just a room) and made his request.

“I have a friend, who’s something like a common writher or whatever it’s called. I want your help finding more, just to see if they work in a similar fashion. This is something I need to know.”
