[CW: covid-19 and it’s relation to fatness, Adele and diet talk]
I don’t know about any other chubsters out there but today has really been the icing on the cake.
Between listening to unsubstantiated claims that covid-19 is more likely to affect those in fat bodies and being constantly barraged by jokes about leaving quarantine fatter it’s been hard to keep my chins up throughout the pandemic.
Side note on the fat jokes - it doesn’t matter how you defend them you are still using someone’s body as the butt of your joke. They’re just a daily reminder that you don’t want to leave this quarantine looking like me or my friends. Justify it however you want, it doesn’t really matter to me because the end product is always the same. You’re making a joke about leaving quarantine heavier, because getting fatter is funny, because being fat is the butt of the joke.
Anyway, on top of all that we were blessed with pictures of Adele today. A woman who has glowed up. A woman who is now beautiful. She wasn’t beautiful before, but now, well, now she is just stunning.
It was just a bit too much after an already shitty day, just another day of being reminded that outside of the carefully cultivated online space I exist in, I am undesirable. Today, for the first time in a long time I struggled with my body image. I looked up a few diets online. I watched some weight loss videos. I shaved off my body hair. I looked for ‘flattering’ clothes online. Then I cried.
I’m sure some people will find some fault with this and pop off in the comments, but I don’t have the energy to defend my feelings today. I don’t need any of that. I need you to just read and know that this is what I felt today. And if this is how I feel as someone who exists in a small fat body, how is it for those with larger bodies than mine?
[image description: yet another golden hour selfie of Joeley. Her hair is wet and she’s looking dejected. Her skin is glowing because she’s just done a sheet mask.]

important to remember!!! not everybody has to like you!! you don’t have to please everybody!! just bc somebody doesn’t like you doesn’t mean you’re unlikeable!!
