"Hey baby, good da - "
You pause your question as your husband drops his jacket to the floor and immediately falls forward onto the bed, faceplanting the pillows. You blink in surprise before you let out a small laugh, your face softening at the sight of the slumped man.
"Channie?" You ask, resting a gentle hand on his shoulder. Chan yelps at the contact and you jump, confused at his reaction. "What's wrong? Did I hurt you?"
Chan groans into the pillows, aggressively shaking his head side to side; his straightened hair bristles at the contact, blowing up like a cloud around his head.
"I pulled a muscle," Chan mumbles into the pillow. "Or maybe several."
Frowning, you push up the fabric of his thin shirt up his back; your eyes almost pop out of your sockets when they land on Chan’s upper back. His skin looks sore and red, his muscles near his shoulder blades sporting shining skin - they're definitely swollen, and you gasp when you realise the strain isn't only on one side, but on both.
"Chan what the fu - "
"Daddy!" You immediately stop the rest of your sentence when your six year old bounds into the room, closely followed by her brother. "Daddy, daddy, daddy!"
"Hey angel," Chan does his best to plaster a sunny smile on his face as he turns his head to the side, waving at a giggling Sky.
Sky jumps onto the bed and crawls onto the bed, immediately crawling to sit on Chan's lower back; in a giddy outburst, she slams her hands onto Chan's shoulders.
Chan let's out a muffled squeak into the pillows, his whole body tensing and you hastily reach for Sky's hands.
"Hey, hey," you slide your hands around Sky's waist and deftly lift the confused girl into your lap. "Be careful baby. Daddy's hurt himself."
Sky's eyes widen into round discs. "Daddy are you okay? Shall I kiss it better?"
Chan chuckles at that, lifting his head slightly. "That'd be nice princess."
Sky scrambles over to Chan and gently places a hovering kiss over Chan's shoulder. "See? All better."
"Ah, so much better," Chan nods, hiding a slight wince as he moves position. "You’re a magical child."
"Dad what did you do?" Noah asks from the side of the bed, pushing his large headphones down around his neck. He fiddles with the cord of them in his long, slender fingers, dark eyes narrowing at the sight of his father's evident pain.
Chan waves a hand around lightly. "Nothing you need to worry about, kiddo. Your dad's just a bit stupid sometimes."
Noah raises an eyebrow.
Sighing, Chan rubs his hands over his face. "I might have done some strength training without warming up. And I might have pushed myself harder even though I felt a muscle being pulled. Maybe. But I'm only telling you this because I need you to know what not to do. Don't do what I did. Always warm up. Don't ignore pain."
"Daddy's bad," Sky declares, and you shake your head in Chan's direction.
"Daddy is bad, you're right."
"I'm bad," Chan agrees, gasping as his shoulder twinges with pain.
Sighing, you smooth your hand over Sky's head and cup Noah's face gently. "Alright kiddos. Make yourselves useful and go and get your dad some ice packs."
"Okay!" Sky giggles as she slides out of your grip and with Noah behind her, she zooms out of the room, leaving you and your sheepish looking husband alone.
"Chan what the fuck."
To your surprise, Chan bursts out laughing at your reaction. "I could you see you dying to say that. You were turning blue."
"I was not."
"You so were."
"Fuck you."
"Sure, if you want to do all the work," Chan wriggles his eyebrows and you throw a cushion at his face in response. The man starts laughing again and you sigh before giggling at him, flopping down on the bed beside him.
You gently trail your fingers down his back, carefully sliding his t-shirt off and over his head. Your hand cups the nape of his neck, your thumb caressing the soft skin and curly hair. "Why did you do it?"
"Do what?"
"Push yourself like that. It’s not like you to be so careless," you continue, twisting your fingers around his hair. You gently tug at the hair and he moans softly, eyes falling shut at the feeling.
"Mmm," Chan hums in thought, his cheek puffed up against the pillow. You can't help but smile. Even though you want to be mad at him for not taking better care of himself, you can't; the vulnerability on his face at the current moment has your heart softening far quicker than you'd like.
"I was too … excited?" Chan says, opening one eye to look at you. "You know I haven't been able to work out for weeks, and there was so much stress and tension and emotion all lodged up inside of me that once I actually got to the gym I couldn't wait any longer. I couldn't even wait a few more minutes to warm up. And I ignored the pain because I still hadn't gotten all my aggression out … if anything it made me angrier and I just … "
"Lost control," you finish for him, and he nods as you shake your head at him. "Idiot."
Only your husband grins at you calling him an idiot. His face lights up at the word, knowing you only ever use it on him put of affection.
"Promise you won't do that again?" You ask him, sliding your hand up and down his back. "I don't want you getting hurt again."
"Yes miss," Chan rolls his eyes up to the ceiling good naturedly, a smile spreading across his lips. "I promise."
"Miss, huh? I could get used to that," you smirk at him, leaning forward and locking your lips with his.
He smiles into the kiss, gently grazing his teeth on your bottom lip. "How about mistress?"
You laugh, kissing his nose. "Even better."
"Too bad you can't help but call me daddy every time we fu - "
"We brought them!" Sky bursts in just at that moment and you both can't help but burst into peals of laughter at this time Chan cutting off his sentence.
"Now who's turning blue?" You tease him, and Chan whines at you just as Sky jumps up onto the bed again.
She hands over the ice packs to you, her fingers red from the cold. "What are you laughing at, mama?"
You shrug, looking over at your husband who wriggles his eyebrows at you. Again.
"Oh, nothing. Just at how your daddy is very clumsy," you answer, and Sky's face lights up at that.
"Daddy's clumsy like me," she says proudly, and Chan laughs at her in agreement.
Picking up the two ice packs, you gently lay them over both of Chan's shoulders, hoping the cold will decrease some of the swelling.
Chan bristles under the cold, his breath hitching. "It's cold."
You snort. "Yeah. No shit, sherlock."
Then your eyes widen and Chan stares at you, his lips twitching, just as Sky gasps dramatically at the both of you.
"Here we go," you mutter just so Chan can hear and he sniggers before Sky slaps her hands onto her cheeks, pulling down her face in mock horror.
"Mummy said a baaaaaddd wordddddd," Sky loudly drags out the words and you place a hand over your heart, shutting your eyes as you try and adopt a serious expression.
"I apologise," you say to Sky, ignoring Chan laughing into his pillow. "It was very wrong of me. You didn't hear anything."
Sky taps her chin, and Noah smiles softly as he watches his melodramatic sister. "Well, I'll think about it. Big brother Noey and I need to go and discuss."
You nod seriously at your daughter as she grabs her unruffled brother by his arm and leads him out of the bedroom. You hear their footsteps fading away before Chan bursts into laughter all over again, his eyes crinkling up as he turns to look at you.
"Nice one, Miss," he taunts you and without another word, you slap him on the behind.
Chan lets out a yell and you start giggling, scrabbling out of his reach as you reach for one of the ice packs sliding down his back.
"I will smack you with this next time," you brandish it infront of Chan's face and the man's face contorts as he imagines the severe cold.
"Yeah. Then you'll have blue balls," you snigger and Chan starts chuckling again. Winching, he reaches out his arm and pulls you close to him, and without protesting, you let him hold you as tight as he can with his injured shoulder.
"At least we know where Sky got her feisty side from," Chan hums into the crook of your neck, making you smile. "You're both so violent."
You wrap your arms around the man, being careful so as not to disturb the ice on his shoulders. "Yeah well she got her clumsiness from you. So we're even."
"I don't know where Noah got his traits from," Chan laughs. "He's way too well behaved."
You hum in agreement and slide closer to Chan, your bodies pressing up against each other. You lay there for a while before you can feel something stirring against your waist and you glare at Chan, who starts laughing sheepishly in your direction.
"So … about that fucking - "
You throw an ice pack straight into his face.
