On this day 30 years ago, Tim Berners-Lee submitted a proposal with the dreary title “Information Management” to his superior at the European physics laboratory CERN.

It began by asking how future scientists would keep track of their increasingly large projects. “This proposal provides an answer to such questions,” he wrote.

The proposal described what, in just a couple years’ time, would transform into the World Wide Web: a connected system for sharing information that would revolutionize how the entire planet communicated.

Theverse the Penguin, the Riddler, Brainiac, Lex Luthor

Oswald Cobblepot once took a vacation to Antarctica. He brought back a souvenir, namely a large and hungry shoggoth that is quickly becoming the master in the relationship.

The Riddler got a YouTube channel and is beloved by the Internet.

The alien supercomputer BRAINIAC thinks of itself as a wildlife preservationist: it takes cities from civilizations on the verge of destruction, bottles them, and saves them from extinction. Of course, Superman is absolutely not having with the thesis that Earth is doomed, and punches it right in the fancy green mannequin it uses to talk to people.

Lex Luthor is the founder of Amazon and in all respects acts like the Jeff Bezos of our universe.

And, other anon: Nightwing is in this, but only as an alias Superman uses in Kandor. I don’t think Pearl Loxley would fill a Nightwing role, given that I’ve established she plays up the Robin Hood side of being Robin.

Also to whoever sent that last ask in: no, I don’t mind; it’s a fun exercise.

Some more Theverse characters: Deathstroke, Deadshot, Green Arrow, Harley Quinn

Deathstroke is tonally inappropriate.

Deadshot would be a one-storyline villain whose arc culminates in the Batman getting him psychiatric care.

*very raspy voice*: there are much better ways to deal with a death wish than to throw yourself in situations where you might be killed

Five years on in the story, Robin flies out to Star City for college. With skills learned from her dad and an archery obsession picked up in highschool, she finds and fills a hero vacuum and is dubbed the Green Arrow.

Harley Quinn was a caseworker at Arkham Asylum who became disillusioned with the system, even with the new support from Wang Enterprises. Her method is similar to the Theverse Joker’s – her crimes have to be funny – but where the Joker focuses on the modern clown/vaudeville aesthetic, Harley Quinn focuses on the medieval jester aesthetic, and in general fighting her is like the worst Medieval Times visit of your life. Or The Eight Chained Orangoutangs. She collaborates with the Joker when they can make their clowncrimes work together, and has recently incorporated a Sleeping Beauty-esque wall of thorns into her work following her budding (hah) romantic relationship with Pamela “Poison Ivy” Rappaccini.
