any advice for helping my bearded dragon get a little chunkier if we can't always get bugs to feed him along with his salad? i'm worries he's too skinny (not dangerously so, but we love a chunky lizard)
Vet-and-wild here.
Most bearded dragons are overweight, so take that into consideration when body condition scoring. We are conditioned to looking at overweight animals as normal. Animals are generally healthier at a slightly lean body condition. If your beardie is an adult 70-90% of his diet should be plant matter anyway so you probably don’t need to increase the bugs. If you feel like he is losing/not maintaining weight despite a healthy appetite that would warrant a vet visit.
