Going Baaaaaaarmy in a Sheep Pen
24/08/15
Time is a funny thing these days. I plan things far in advance, sometimes almost a year ahead. And ever so slowly these dates roll up behind the calendar curtain and jump out at me “BOO!” ….and then I am like “OMG its so-and-so event next weekend. HELP” I over panic, I get fair anxiety then I realise I am prepared. I had been prepared for a while, but then I just put it out of my mind for a bit as I knew it was ‘reserved for action’ in a few month time. Its a process I always go through.
This is what it was like for Art in the Pen. It was my 3rd time round at this place so I was fairly confident and chilled about the whole parking/setting up plan. I had just forgotten one minor detail…I am pregnant. This put me in an unfortunate position of not being so self-relying in terms of picking display goods up, and carrying them to a sheep pen. I had a rather heavy suitcase full of stall and a bulky shaker table to shift all on my Todd. I decided to wait for the husband to get home from work after 4pm and then drive swiftly to Skipton, set up and be ready for 7pm opening cake.
It was a skin of my teeth job! I was still arraigning when the 7pm bell rang. Husband was feeling all spare part like, sat in a corner sorting my price tags out into price groups for ease of use. At least he got to have 10 year celebration cake and some red wine! The opening event lasted surprisingly long, and I was cold and tired and a tad stressed out at leaving it so late, hoping the weekend would be a success. Photos of the event can be seen here (I have a JEMS skeleBabay top!)
Saturday seemed busy but there didn’t seem so much jewellery spending about. I was starting to doubt my decision to come to the event. After all it’s never so amazing that I make loads of sales. To be honest I like the event for so many other reasons. It’s easy to drive to and park, it’s a social gathering as many of the Craft Soup come as visitors and guests, so I chin wag all day. It’s in a pen! I love that fact, it’s barmy. It may be a bit wet and smelly on the first evening, but your nose gets used to it! Art in the Pen is a really fun, well organised and attended event. Some remembered me from last year, I was rather chuffed. Anyway, all this pro-ing and con-ing needn’t have happened because as Sunday afternoon progressed I did well, and I even got myself a gold commission out of it #winning !
A nice quite August meant I could do some much missed designing and making of the RoboDog. He has been developing behind the scenes for a while, but I never spent a proper amount of time on him, so it was grand to get him out of the sketch book and onto the work bench. The RoboDog is soon to be on the JEMS product list for Christmas. Woof!
I have also been developing an aline face too, though I am not so sure about him...
In other news, I am now on my last 3 events of the year! The next one being The WI Centenary Fair in Harrogate, 3-6th of September. It’s a big massive besty event, and I am a little scared. I have been planning parking and set up today, and I am willing it to come quickly as I want it done and dusted. I hope its going to pay off….Its ended up costing a small fortune…..oops!

Anyway, that’s for the next blog entry, keep posted JEMS fans. Thanks for reading x
