OMG. Bucky would be totally sensitive about the whole mermaid thing, but he secretly adores it. He likes swimming around and seeing the sea life and he likes exploring the harder to reach parts along the coast where they live he AND TOTALLY SINGS LIKE SUCH A MERMAID STEREOTYPE but don't dare tell Steve (but Steve knows and he thinks Bucky is a wonderful singer.)

Steve has a collection of shells and cool rocks that Bucky found at the bottom of the ocean for him. And Steve is totes jealous because HE WANTS TO GO DIVING AND EXPLORE REEFS WITH BUCKY. So when they're older (after puberty when Steve beefs the fuck up) Steve gets his scuba certification and buys a boat and he and Bucky just sail the world.

cRIES BUT LIKE steve sits down and makes a seashell necklace for bucky and bucky's like 'nope not wearing it' but bucky only wears it on occasion when he needs good luck and steve noTICES EVERY DAMN TIME LIKE not very sneaky bucky

And whenever he wears it HE JUST RUNS HIS FINGERS OVER IT AND LOOKS AT IT LIKE IT'S SOMETHING PRECIOUS and Steve totally sees and ducks his head and blush bright red.

steve would spend hours with bucky by a lake or something and would laze around and draw bucky and his tail and bucky would scoff and say he's not worth drawing with his tail and steve jusT FEELS INSULTED FOR SOME REASON and makes it his mission to draw and sketch merbucky into everything he has and bUCKY BLUSHES EVERY TIME HE SEES THEM

Bucky is so self conscious about him being a merman and STEVE IS LIKE NO YOU'RE GORGEOUS! and it's his mission in life to prove it to Bucky.

He also totes does Bucky's hair in fancy braids and with flowers and shells.

bUT LIKE YES it'd be so cute bucky trying to teach steve to swim right and steve wouldn't want to stop and bucky would want to take breaks and eventually they start lazy swimming and steve just loVES IT

STEVE WOULD JUST LOVE HAVING A MERMAN BEST FRIEND!! He would like have an obsession with Bucky's tall, no joke. Like when their just lazily swimming and floating around, Steve would just run his hands over the smooth scales.
