  What Stories Need:

Conflict

Clear structure, direction

Obstacles for the protagonist

  Plot: events of a story in chronological order

  Structure: the way the plot is arranged. The structure may include:

Point of view of the character

Chronology

Timing in which story is told

Visual motifs

Word play

  Stories and Their Build:

Set-up

Inciting incident

Reveal (revealing a mystery or unanswered question within the plot helps the story’s development and helps capture the reader’s attention)

Turning point à conflict can arise between the protagonist’s needs and values

Cliff-hanger (makes it unclear to the reader what will happen next)

Climax (the biggest event that the story builds up to)

Denouement/Resolution (ties the story together and presents the ending to the reader)
