CW: Spoilers for The Amazing Digital Circus Finale
I am frustrated with those who immediately think because I and others decide to criticize Jax'd behavior it means we expect all trans people to be perfect.
It's just untrue. And in not saying some people aren't doing it. But saying it's everybody is unfair and unnecessary to get your point across.
The idea of it is not unbeknownst to me.
Some people think that if a trans character is not perfect, then they are a problem due to being a representation of those who are trans.
I don't believe that. But I do believe certain parts of Jax's character were handled poorly.
I do feel like consequences were few and far in-between.
I don't think the effects he/she had on other character was handled properly.
And that does affect my enjoyment of the character.
I feel like its also harmful to not give people a choice in the way the feel about a character just because they are a part of the gay/queer community. And that's not really fair.
I do think that many characters which are gay or trans are often more criticized than those who are not, but that does not all of a sudden mean criticism is not allowed.
It's honestly quite hurtful and frustrating to deal with. To be asked to see the complexity of a character and then been told that your analysation and understanding of a character is unnecessary and not worth it; to stop seeing what you see
