Yes, dont get me wrong, the people LOVE it when Spider-Man is miserable and suffering, but I think it's deeper than that. We love to see Spider-Man when he's usually a kid/young adult suffer so horribly not because we enjoy it, but because we see him get up and keep going, I know for a fact that this isn't a hot take, but I need to word it. I think many others love Spider-man in this respect because it is so uncommon in real life to see people get up from the same situations, at least in my limited life experience, over and over again. To see a kid/young adult go through worse and keep going is inspiring. It's the joke that when you're going through a bad day or week or month or year or LIFE, you think of Spider-man and KNOW he's gone through worse and kept going and that can actually make you feel better. Like genuinely, yes, it's a funny joke, but it's also so, so true. Knowing Spider-man, who can be anyone, not just Peter Parker, can go through LITERAL HELL and WORSE and still get up and do better day after day, makes me unironically feel better and I know it does to for others. Being able to imagine the mask and how "it makes you stronger" to make you strive not just to get up again but also to do better is so inspiring.
And also knowing that the only thing your worst moment defines is how you can do better. Is so comforting to so many, not just kids or teens, everyone.
