"Really?"
Inez didn't shy from the cautious tepidity trailing up her neck. Beginning at her collar, expanding to four points that lingered on her jaw. The fifth at her cheek. Tugging her closer, brushing over her bottom lip. Tender and precise. Inez never felt so safe beneath calloused hands.
"So you would have me, as I am?" Julien paused. Left room for Inez to pull away, but her attention had already been directed to one place. Inez noted her nervous swallow, the fleeting falter of her composure. She blinked up at her. Leaning into Julien's palm, she savoured the solace radiating from her skin.
"All that and more."
Inez never did consider it before. Love, in all its glory. The taste of another. Like spring, flooding your mind and overriding all you've known. Julien tasted like life. The slow press of her lips to Inez, tentative and hungry. This distance could sate her. Close enough to catch the scent of pine. The plenitude in being held and undone at dusk. Inez lifted her hands to tangle her fingers in Julien's—chasing the thrill of another peck, another kiss, another way to hook her deeper in her bones.
Everything else had fallen away. The world, the wildflowers, the birdsong in their surrounding. Love came like a weeping thing, creeping through that breach in the walls. Raked up her arms to slip beneath her collar, resting at her nape, cradling her head. Spread like a fluttering balm in her veins. Reverent. Coaxing for more.
